My wife just uses a shoe heel as a hammer and a knife as a screwdriver . Gary I call that adapt and overcome , using whatever is at hand to get the job done even if it's not fit for purpose , I like how she thinks .

I like that analogy although I must admit to being a bit of a hammer man!! Nothing wrong with bashing! It works well within a certain range. A bit closer, or a bit farther away and other things in the tool box show their worth. you mean you don't have a throwing hammer?? I thought they were in every ones tool box!!

I've known quite a few lads over the years that would drink out of a shoe but I've never known anyone to use them to open a can of beer .

I think he misses the point, unless his point is dancing. Function first, always.

He might be the salt of the earth but he comes over a bit know-it-all. I don't want to read stuff that questions what I enjoy by someone who's never done it.
That's my wife's job.

My sister, a Sandan in a light contact, Kyokushin spin-off, has been quietly listening to me rant about kata Bunkai over the years. She finally exploded, in her way, and informed me that most people don't give a shit and actually like the mystery dance. She likened kata to yoga, where perhaps ages ago there was some significance to the poses but today, most yogis prefer the pseudo science, chanting and foreignness of ritualized behaviour. This argument struck a chord in me as I am intrigued by some of the extreme positions (hand balances) in ashtanga yoga which require more than an average amount of strength, balance, and flexibility. She insisted that before you get to the hand balancing, you must go through the chanting, meditation, etc. I called bullshit on that, but I suppose there are folks that don't want or need all the background information.
