I'm fed up of people asking me "how is Enshin different to other styles"
All is say now is "I like it"

Osu!
Wishing all the best to Shihan Dan Lockhart who is retiring from Enshin as far as teaching full time.

Hello guys,
I'm interested in enshin karate. But I couldn't figure out if there are traditional katas trained at enshin? Do you guys know more about it?
Anyways I will give it a try because the next shinkyokushin dojo is an hour away by car. :-(
Best regards Jan

There are 7 kata in Enshin, below is White belt one and the Black belt one. You can see that they both follow the same pattern (as do all of them). The Enshin Germany chief instructor has a Dojo in Freiburg if you are anywhere need there? (the second video is filmed at that dojo).

I like that the technique are validated in competition- no surprises in a crunch.

Thanks monty. I'll give it a try. Is there a known reason for dropping the traditional kyokushin katas? It seems enshin is more a modern sportsversion of kyokushin.
Best regards Jan

Thanks monty. I'll give it a try. Is there a known reason for dropping the traditional kyokushin katas? It seems enshin is more a modern sportsversion of kyokushin. Best regards Jan Well Enshin came from Kancho Joko Ninomiya, 1978 All Japan Kyokushin Champion who later was part of Ashihara Karate (Founded by former Kyokushin Shihan Hideyuki Ashihara) in 1980. Ashihara Karate had no traditional kata and was all fighter/Jissen kata. When Ninomiya left Ashihara Karate and formed Enshin Karate in 1988 he carried on with this "Jissen" kata and developed his own. That way Enshin stands not on the shoulders of Kyokushin but alongside of it. At least that is my take on it.
