Here, there's classic Kyokushin knockdown for the men, but not for the women. When I'm really able to compete, we'll see if something can maybe be done... a women's knockdown category, or just letting me fight the men. I'll get my ass kicked, but I'll be able to say I did it right!

No offense Evergray, but being a kyokusin fullcontact woman fighter, I know that we sadly have no chance against a trained kyokushin knockdown man fighter. On the up side, being a kyokushin fighter, we can probably defend ourselves against almost any attack. Here, there's classic Kyokushin knockdown for the men, but not for the women. No way in hell I would do a knockdown fight against a Woman. Personally, I don't think I could respect a Man that did a real knockdown fight, kickboxing, Muay Thai, or MMA fight, or Boxing fight against a Woman. Osu!

OSU. Gender shouldn't matter. If the woman is capable of taking you on, then she should be given the same amount of respect. To do less is to devalue the person you are fighting, and any achievements that they have garnered.
Being a man, you should accept the fact that there are women that can compete and even defeat you. It is the fighter, not their gender, that should concern you.
OSU!

I have competed under Sabaki rules, Kyokushin rules, Intl. kickboxing rules, Muay Thai rules and more..and have had fighters under me, have you? I was raised not to hit a Woman and definitely won't for the sake of competition nor will I advocate it. Competition isn't gym/dojo sparring. I'm not going to jump knee a Woman in the face, punch her in the face as hard as I can, elbow her in the head, and so on. You won't find any big knockdown karate tournament that will allow this, neither. I personally will lose respect for anybody that calls himself a Man that willingly strikes a Woman for the sake of competition. With that being said I'm all for a Women competing against each other but against Men in full contact competition, no, I'm not. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and debates can be done respectfully but this is one opinion of mine I won't be changing, indefinitely. Osu!

This is one of the subjects that made me leave the old forum so I hope it doesn't cause conflict here.
I won't hurt a woman or child and call it sport. If a woman threatens my family I would defend them but I sincerely hope that never happens.
The bigger question to me is "Why on earth do women need to 'prove' themselves tougher than men?" My wife's tougher than me and I already know that ...

Being a man, you should accept the fact that there are women that can compete and even defeat you. It is the fighter, not their gender, that should concern you. I think that male and female divisions should be completely separate. I can't think of a single sporting event that relies on physical prowess where men and women compete against each other. Apart from the physical differences between men and women, most men would be at a psychological disadvantage if the aim of the contest was to knock a woman out. The man would be damned if he won, damned if he lost and damned if he refused to fight! So no, it is not a level playing field and I think men and women should fight separately.

Well said, Ros. I'm all for men and women sparring in the dojo, but not in competition.
As far as the respect thing goes, it works both ways. You could say it shows a lack of respect for your opponent if you refuse to fight them, but is it not just as much a lack of respect on your part to not allow him the right to feel that way?

Nah Gary, I'm the one who is gung ho about fighting in full knockdown, which means fighting men around here, since there is no full knockdown tournament for women. But we're good, eh? I won't call you out on the mat. :}

I agree with Gary, when this topic came up on another forum, it was kinda the beginning of the end for a few of us, there was a lot of "passion" for want of a better word on both sides, and at the end of it we were no further forward, everyone still had the same opinion they started with. Lets not head down that road please.
Anyway, back to the original thread of the thread, I was a crap points fighter, I hated it with a passion, but I think its a great way for kids to learn the ropes and progress on to light or semi knockdown, before the full fat stuff.

Got to agree it is a great way for kids to be able to compete without the fear of full contact. We always have a great turnout for our clicker events, it really gets them used to the experience of being on the mat. Also something i noticed after i competed in our last clicker tourney, my knockdown sparring changed. Instead of the toe to toe close in fighting that i was using all the time, i have started moving around again more. On my toes and looking for openings more rather than forcing them! So while i'm not a great fan of points fighting, it does have some value.
