Just curious, is anyone using canned dojo management software? I might be looking to invest in some software but want to get some feedback first.

Can't say I have, and I'm curious myself, if it's worth having. Is it any better than just using excel? Osu!

I have just enough students to be able to keep track of it, but as I grow Excel is my action plan... OSU! It's my plan, too, but I may start using it soon. I'm expecting about 8-12 new students in the next couple of weeks as the fall term is starting where I teach (a university). I have a hard enough time remembering new times, even a harder remembering that someone may start on the 7th, another person on the 10th, and another one on the 1st to know when they should have paid their month's tuition! This is because I'll allow anyone to practically start any day I have class, unless there is a grading going on that day! Osu!

I manage according to the calendar for just that reason; I chose the due date, everyones date is the same, everyone pays by the quarter (prorated, if you join part way through).
It's simply easier for me that way.

I know if I tried to join at a dojo that made me wait until the next time of the month when to pay for tuition to start, I'd be too impatient and more than likely join somewhere else. Yes, a karateka should be patient but somebody who hasn't even trained yet, is just as impatient as everybody else! I'm still impatient!(patient about rank advancement, though) after years of martial arts, patience hasn't really improved too much LOL! To somebody that hasn't trained martial arts, they're not going to typically know the difference between good and bad karate (or karate and kroddy). With that being said, I'll let a student typically start any day I offer class, unless there is a grading going on that day. Osu!

Nope, you missed my point, lol.
When I say "I manage my class to the calendar", I mean Jan - Mar, April-June, July-Sep, Oct - Dec are the "quarters" for my class.
Dues are due in January, April, July & October for everyone. If a student joins in, for example, August, they owe dues for August & September, due when they decide to join. I set a deadline for the quarter and dues are due by that deadline. This way, I don't have to keep track of who owes when, because everyone owes "when I say", lol.

Gotcha now, wasn't too sure because I have known of schools where you can only join at certain times. Many Kendo dojo in my area do this practice. Coincidentally, I've never studied kendo . Osu!

I run a site called The Dojo Manager it's donation based and I built it for small to medium schools (1-50 students). I'd love any feedback, and hope you check it out. www.thedojomanager.com

Just created my account and only added a couple students to it so far. Seems fairly easy to use, only had to think for about a minute on how I set up the ranks.
I will start charging in 2-3 weeks, so I'll work on the tuition part when that time comes. I probably won't be able to give a good review for 4-6 weeks from now when I really start using it more often! Osu!

I just tried it myself. It might not be a great benefit to me as my students pay per class. Where it will help is with yearly licence fees which are all over the place. I too, will keep you posted

We have over 50 students and excel just isn't cutting it any more. Was hoping someone had a desktop solution they use because we don't have interwebs in the building and there's no free wifi in the area.
