Cool Down - Deep relaxed stretching and (to satisfy my inner fat guy) a Shamrock Shake. Never heard Guiness called that before. Good work Big Al Gary

Oh man, now I've got a hankering for Guiness. I've had to resort to cheap beers for some time but I think it's time to splurge.
Tuesday was my off day, I just trained Sanchin and Tensho and did some good stretching.
Today I did my usual mini-workouts throughout the day (50 push-ups on the push-up bars to mix things up a bit, 72 reps of various ab exercises, planks, dynamic stretching, Sanchin, Tensho, and several pistols per leg using a counterweight). Later on before work, I warmed up then trained each kata twice each. I then worked 10 different drills of ido geiko (20 reps or so apiece) then finished with running 1.5 miles in under 20 minutes (60 sec run/90 sec walk) and some stretching.
For the kata, I decided to wear my heart rate monitor and checked it about four times throughout the training. On average my HR was 166, compared to when I first began after being warmed up at about 115. I thought that was pretty interesting. The whole kata portion took about 15 minutes, so I may try 3-4 reps of each kata continuously as a kind of stamina training the next time I can't run. As I ran I also threw in some systematic impact conditioning using tettsui. Definitely not something for running during daylight hours though, I can assure you.

Do you guys do the Sokugi Taikyoku kata's?
That one will get your HR up.

OSU, I was taught them once but we don't regularly practice them. I'll throw them in the mix occasionally though instead of the regular Taikyoku kata sometimes.
Very draining day on both the wife and I. Both of us are operating with minimal sleep and both boys today were off their rockers and neither napped all day long. I still managed to summon the motivation to go to class tonight though.
Class was Shihan, myself, and Adrian. After individual warm-ups, we warmed up as a group by hitting the stairs three times then working some mae keage and crescent kicks (inside and outside, both of which I need to practice more). We then did some partner stretching, then Adrian and I partnered up for some fighting drills. We traded high kicks for reps (light contact, blocking with forearms) then low kicks for reps, then worked rear double kicks (low kick to high kick using same leg) on the pads. We then used that rear double kick, added in a spinning kick (hook, back, or side, whatever worked for us) then finished with a front kick on the pads. Spinning backs seemed to work the best for me, and as my final kick I mixed in side kicks and knee strikes as well.
I then taught Adrian Sanchin kata with a few pointers from Shihan on my own, and led them in several reps of it. We then grabbed the focus mitts and worked on defending against a rear roundhouse punch (shuto jodan uke to jodan gyaku tsuki, though not the traditional kihon way). Shihan held for me and we ended up going pretty fast near the end, him trying his darndest to pop me with the mitt. Adrian and I then did some light sparring to finish the workout. Adrian has good flexibility and high kicks, so it was good for me as I normally don't get the opportunity for kumite that much considering our circumstances and when I do they're typically not good high kickers. I was stymied for a bit but then just kept closing the distance and smothering, using punches, knees, and low kicks. It seemed to work well as I could tell Adrian was getting frustrated near the end and wasn't attacking as much. I really tried working the footwork and various low kicks this time around, and it worked out okay for me so far.
Both Mrs. BigAl and I are totally beat so I may try to fit my kettlebell workout in tomorrow along with some running. Busy weekend ahead but hopefully I can fit in my Sunday workout.

Hahaha! So yesterday Mrs. BigAl and I got two hours of personal training from a Master RKC, which was incredibly invaluable. We seemed to have a basic idea of what we were doing, as we ended up covering quite a lot in that time span. We worked on the Turkish get-up, two handed swings, one arm cleans, one arm swings, one arm press, and goblet squats. He then helped my wife with some of her stability issues by teaching us a few interesting exercises and then helped me refine my pistols a bit more and gave me some ideas for working on those to do them better. We then went out to a local bar and grill and stuffed ourselves silly. I can definitely say the ostrich burger was worth the wait.

I apologize for slacking with posting my workouts.
Mini-Workouts: Sanchin, Tensho, planks, and makiwara (50 strikes per hand: shuto soto uke to gyaku tsuki), 3 sets of seiken push-ups, 3 sets of fingertip push-ups, four way neck exercises, 60 reps of various ab exercises, and body tempering with homemade maki-stick.
Warm-Up: 5 min of rope skipping, all three Taikyoku kata, all three Sokugi Taikyoku kata, junbi undo.
Kata: Focus was on Pinan Sono Yon today. 3 reps of the kata as a whole, 10 repetitions of each sequence in the kata, then finished with 3 more reps of the kata as a whole.
Goshin-Jutsu: 10 reps of each combination, focus was on technique and body shifting.
Running: 1.5 mile run test, a head shaking 17:46. To think a few years ago I was running that far almost twice as fast.
Power Yoga: 20 minute DVD workout with the wife.
Cool Down: Sanchin, Tensho, stretching routine.

Thanks MMX!
Yesterday was incredibly busy. With the combination of putting in new rods and drapes for a few hours, a birthday party, and fighting a war against some pesky ant invaders, not to mention two wacky kids, it was an exhausting day. I basically just did Sanchin and Tensho throughout the day but at my wife's urging I did a quick 5 minute kettlebell workout: 60 sec two handed swings, 60 sec TGU left side, 60 sec two handed swings, 60 sec TGU right side, and 60 sec goblet squats. What little bit I had left was gone by this point. I then did a few bodyweight-only TGUs each side to focus on form, then finished with some good stretching. Two of my buddies trained together today and invited me, but we already had the birthday party to go to. There's talk of maybe Friday though.
Today was also a pretty physically and mentally exhausting day. I got my Sanchin and Tensho in, some makiwara work (50 seiken tsuki each hand), and 20 minutes of power yoga. Other than that by the time the kids were in bed and my uniform was ready for work, I grabbed a quick nap before work. I was trying to go to class tonight but unfortunately that wasn't happening.
In good news, I now have the room and the approval of Mrs. BigAl (thanks to a dedicated garage cleaning session last week) so my heavy bag wall mount should be here next week and my training should get a bit more interesting now that I finally have something to hit.

Very busy day today but I still managed to squeeze in a quick kettlebell workout.
Warm-Up: Face the wall squats, kettlebell halos, Russian pumps, and naked TGUs.
Exercise: Rotated sets of two-handed swings with 100 skips of the rope. I was really focusing on proper form and getting a good hardstyle lock with each swing, so I only did about 5 sets throughout.
Cool-Down: Isometric stretching, front and side split.

It was perfect timing on your part, as that was actually my next approach. It's nice actually having the right materials though rather than just getting it second hand from other sources.
Yesterday's activities:
Throughout the Day - Abs, planks, Sanchin, Tensho.
Warm-Up: Face the wall squats, kettlebell halos, Russian pumps, and naked TGUs.
Get-Ups: 5 minutes continuous, alternating hands each rep.
Alternating Pushups: 3 sets of max reps (odd numbers regular spacing, even numbers close spacing).
Cool-Down: Isometric stretching, front and side split.
Got my heavy bag wall mount yesterday as well! I'm checking out the basement walls before I put it in to see if it's sturdy enough to mount without excess backing. I'm thinking just some sleeve anchors with bolts should do the trick.

Again, very little time so a short one was all I could manage.
Warm-Up: Tensho x3, Sanchin x3.
Running: 20 minutes of 60 sec running/90 sec light jogging or walking.
Makiwara: 50 strikes per hand. I would work 20 good solid punches then try 5 fast, whip-like ones just to mix things up.
Abs: 60 reps of various exercises, no rest in between each, then finished with some planks.
Cooled down by working some stretches to open the hips and stretch out the legs.
