Looking forward to it. Tickets ordered and room booked. Game on! Gary Yep, game on should be on my own for the karate and then Aon and Bart will be at the hotel. Bart prefers the pool at K2 and Aon the shops in the town.....Yet Bart wanted me to take him to the Scottish open?...Perhaps it`s because he knows Iain and the crew and he`s having a go in Scotland himself Saturday week?

Went to a rugby match last night and chatted to a friend whose kids train at a local club.
They constantly get bruised up, hit with belts and one got punched in the face by the instructor.
She asked me if this was 'normal'. My reply shocked her a bit, "No it's ****ing not!"
I know accidents happen, but for myself I don't like seeing kids knocked around - plenty of time for contact later - and if an instructor intentionally punches a child in the face he needs a good shoeing (IMO)
I treat kids I train like I treat my own. Training should be challenging but safe. It should be fun.

Yeah that is not how our dojo trains either. Terrible.

If I witnessed my kids being abused by their instructor there would by blood on my hands.

I don't even like it when Rugby or Soccer coaches bellow at kids, so I'd be an absolute nightmare if they roughed them up.
But sadly this seems to be common in MA. I can only conclude it brings out the best and occasionally the worst in people. What was it Lincoln said? - "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power"

Jeez, it's challenging for the kids at my dojo, but never abusive! Never a bruise on them, they don't get beat up. They make sure they're kept safe. They expect discipline but there's a lot more laughter than tears, and the tears are usually frustration, or when one kid hits another kid a bit too hard during kumite.
