This past weekend I went to the UFC fight night at the Key Arena with my Dad, Brother, girlfriend, and my good army buddy Henrique.
Our seats were decent and it was my first time going to a UFC paid event unless I count the time I went to the UFC for the troops event in NC but that was free. The production for this paid event seemed better.
My Dad was telling me the seats we had in the 200 level that were about $65 USD each were better then the $300 tickets he had for a UFC at the MGM in Vegas.
Anyhow, I knew to expect idiots in the crowd but there seemed to be quite a few. There were also a lot of BJJ and MMA folk in the crowd...what was funny was my brother got to his seat before the rest of us did and asked a random guy sitting near him if he was into MMA and a big fan and the guy replies: "yeah, I'm an amateur fighter" . Anyway, the first fight happens a few minutes later and somebody my brother and I know well is reffing the first fight to which the guy that told my brother that's who he trained under I couldn't bite my tongue and told this guy that yeah we know Anthony, my brother beat him in his first Muay Thai fight LOL!!!! The look on that guy's face was priceless.
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't too impressed with the fight card overall. The production was great and the only fight I really liked was "The Korean Zombie" but there was one fighter known as "Bruce Leroy" that came out in a kung fu uniform smiling and to music that sounded like it was off "The Last Dragon" which was really a nice change from the "Lil Wayne" rap music that I swear was in 4-6 ring entrance songs for fighters.
To top it off I had 2-3 idiots sitting right behind my girlfriend and I smoking pot. I don't care if somebody smokes pot but they were blowing a lot of smoke right into our vicinity which I let go for about 3 seconds until I blew up on them. They ended up leaving and I had people near me thank me. Thankfully it didn't result in physical violence.
Overall, the experience of going to a paid UFC event was "okay" for me but I'm probably not going to go out of my way to go to one again.
If you can tolerate about a good half of the crowd being morons that don't know anything yelling out the dumbest comments ever you will probably have a great time.
I don't feel I got ripped off, the first fight started at about 1500 and we left at about 2200 so I definitely felt we got our money's worth.
The two fighters I was excited to see fight on the card..Ludwig and Ortiz both got out because of injuries .
I'm a big MMA fan but idiotic audience members ruin it too much for me so I'll stick to knockdown karate tournaments from now on.
To think I actually used to corner fighters for MMA fights and match made a few MMA fights before. I just can't stomach the audience for the events anymore.
