I have read that this is an old thai saying, but I do not know where the origin is from.
Any ideas?

HA! My thoughts exactly.... It is commonly quoted on Muay Thai sites and cited as an "Old Muay Thai Saying".

I've heard it, too but what's funny is in Thailand punches are often not "counted" in the scoring of decisions . It's starting to change a bit now...but still has a ways to go. My thoughts is some people are damn good kickers and some are damn good punchers, kneers, elbowers, and so on. Osu!

I was just thinking of this because we have a lot of volume punchers in our gym and even though kick "scores" it's very tough to kick against an aggressive puncher.
Time to start working single collar ties for knees and elbows to keep them from coming in.

Time to start working single collar ties for knees and elbows to keep them from coming in. I'm more of a kicker then a puncher but 9 times out of 10 I use my punches to set up my kicks. I usually can blast dtae/leg kicks on an agressive puncher, tiip them, cut some corners, throw some punches and a head kick or whatever. If someone really likes to be a rhino fighter under MT rules I'll neck wrestle them and knee them to make them regret that decision. You just got to find out what works for you. Easier said then done, I know. Osu!
