Check out the site www.strongfirst.comI would train Strength & Technique,Speed and then endurance. (Basically 2-3 days of moderate but smart weight resistance training in addition to your dojo time.) Check out the book Easy Strength by Pavel and Dan John

I just viewed a guy getting felled by a single swipe to the carotid with a machete on YT. It happened so quickly. A storekeeper walks into his shop, takes off his coat, and turns around to find someone exchanging words with his stockman. The store keeper steps in to investigate, is pushed back a step, then falls straight back as a machete passes through the left side of his neck. He had no time to react, not even to draw up his hands. It was the equivalent of a sucker punch only with a two foot blade. WTF!
I do not know what the lesson from this is. Maybe, guard your personal space at all cost? Empty hand is a game? I am used to sizing up a man and imagine what he is physically capable of. I am at a loss for people with no conscience and a weapon.

Ouch. Yes that is something you would have to be aware of even before it happens. Tough to train something like that but the training will help with situational awareness which is something most people are lacking in our "civilized" world. www.strongfirst.com/no-country-for-old-men-2/

Osu! Hey there! Well I just had a curious argument with a guy who NEVER did any MA in his life (you can guess where this is going) Anyway that dude insisted that: 1-"Krav Maga is not a MA" 2-"It's faster than Karate (he never specified which style) 'cause in 3 movements you kill your opponent" 3-"Even kickboxing is more violent than Karate" ( ) 4-"Karate philosophy (?) is different than Krav, the latter is more deadly and effective" I was the ONLY one on the room who actually trains karate whenever I tried to explain my opinion, they didn't listen much... go figure! Well, thought I'd take this to the forum, just to satiate my aroused curiosity: which would do better in a SD street situation: A well trained kyokushin fighter or a guy with well executed krav maga drills? Osu!

Well, thought I'd take this to the forum, just to satiate my aroused curiosity: which would do better in a SD street situation: A well trained kyokushin fighter or a guy with well executed krav maga drills? Osu! Oh, there are so many posts today making me smile... Residentrenzo, there are two answers to this and all other 'who would win in a fight between x and y.' The first, assuming the people you're asking are patient and reasonable, is it depends because there are so many potential variables between individuals, and the second, in all honesty, is don't be so silly. You don't want to know what the people who are short-tempered and sweary, might say (I know that's usually me)!

I could be wrong but I think I read somewhere that the Israeli army used to be taught Kyokushin before Krav Maga "developed". KM like any system has nicked bits from different MA's, I commented on a KM vid on youtube that had said "you won't see moves like this in karate" the moves just happened to be empi and a shotei, which when I posted that they disabled comments, go figure lol!
when it comes to who would win, as Ros said it's down to the individuals

I'll back the one who gets in first, regardless of 'style'.

Thanx Wullie! I didn't know that bit about kyokushin being taught in IDF before they came up with their own stuff. Gary, by getting in first you mean the one who goes forward and strikes first? Duly noted, Roz!! Perhaps I wasn't trying to ask "which fighter would win" but "which skills you'd consider more practical, effective" instead. Should've rephrased my question better! lol! Anyway, Wullie's already said something very interesting, that'd be enough answer for me Osu!

The only KM instructors I seem to take serious are ones with years of "experience." A real IDF KM instructor, sure, I'll take them serious because I know they have used the stuff in "battle."
My first experience with KM was with some seminar-certified instructors that wouldn't be able to beat any student I ever graded in kumite. They're instructors? Give me a break!
I was taught "bad stuff," and know how to fight angry. I've been successful of having students defend themselves in real situations with what I taught them.
Literally had one text me tonight: "All of them body shot drill we did in karate paid off. I got punched in the stomach by a girl while keeping her away from her victim. Thanks Brian. - Duong" Duong is an English teacher and wrestling coach, so I'm pretty sure this happened at the school he teaches at. Granted, I doubt his life was in serious danger but at the "ripe age" of 23 I taught a 23 year old a simple knee to the face, clinch, knee, to takedown into the ground or wall. I drilled this into him and he had somebody try to mug him and was able to apply it...I also taught to run away as soon as you felt you were able to which the 16 y/o did. Eleven years later, with more experience, I teach dirtier tactics now to those I feel deserve it.
My lineage comes from Bluming via Roy Martina to my instructor, to me. I've seen some of the stuff Bluming has done, and I think it's pretty solid stuff myself. Maybe I'm a sadist, I don't know. Osu!
