It certainly works your grip on the downswing. My wife thinks "it's a stupid dangerous exercise and one day you'll get it wrong and kill yourself"
Then asks me to open a sauce jar ...
Always a silver lining.

Tuesdays is 24's, concentrating on 'getting the weight moving' and Fridays I use 32's and just 'getting it up' is a challenge. (Pun intended) If I work with the 32's both days I feel stiff all week, but the lighter loads on Tuesdays seem to lessen that. Still feel tight, but in a good - everything connected - sort of way. I do far more overhead lifts than benching these days. Not just for shoulder strength, they work the core and power chain far better. Gary

Nice! I prefer overhead pressing to bench pressing as well. The push press is an ideal "low impact" power punching development exercise, if that makes sense. ;D

Absolute sense. I feel it transfers pretty well into the impact stuff. Gary

I too have come to the conclusion that for what I do Bench Press gives me little. Clean and Press and/or clean and Jerk/Military Press is much better.

(Previously posted on the wrong log - sorry Monty)
Paul (training partner, co-instructor & general maniac) 'sighted' me this afternoon for jumping on to my wheelie bin. (42.5" tall)
I can easily get my feet high enough with a kind of tuck jump, but I must admit I bottled it. Didn't fancy messing up and going face first into the concrete.
IT WILL COME

(Previously posted on the wrong log - sorry Monty) That's OK, I hadn't even noticed Paul (training partner, co-instructor & general maniac) 'sighted' me this afternoon for jumping on to my wheelie bin. (42.5" tall) Is that taller than the biggest Jumpy thing at Cobden or smaller?

Paul (training partner, co-instructor & general maniac) 'sighted' me this afternoon for jumping on to my wheelie bin. (42.5" tall) No don't do it, it sounds really dangerous. I can only see one of three things happening: 1) If you don't land absolutely square on the top, the bin might scoot out away from you (as it's a wheelie bin) and you might have a few less teeth. 2) The other option is that you do land square on top and as it's not built to withstand 14 stones, the lid collapses and then you might have a broken ankle. 3) You've already covered the face first into concrete option! Hey, I'm only concerned coz I loves ya ;D

Or I might jump up and stand there like Rocky, cheering wildly with an imaginary soundtrack blasting (echoing) inside my head ...
On second thoughts I think 1, 2 or 3 are more likely.
We have to have a challenge though. Use it or lose it.

Good scheme. Might be time to persuade the boss we need a wall between us and the neighbours. Stepped heights would be nice, say 24", 30", 36", 42" Gary

I once tried to convince the wife a set of plyo boxes would be nice to have around the house. When not used for exercise, they could serve a variety of functions: chairs for the kids, end tables, coffee table. Of course the idea wasn't well received.

"Work on speed or technique before working on strength, work on strength before working on endurance" Violating this principle leads to chronic fatigue, overtraining, or even injuries. Considerably fatigued muscles are less flexible than rested ones.
Any muscle soreness or pain is a signal to stop exercises. Do not resume your training if you feel any discomfort or even a trace of pain.(Kurz) Easy enough to understand, so why do we find it so hard to follow? Gary
