Before you immediately dismiss this, for all of you yudansha, or people that should be Kyokushin yudansha if you could remember some damn kata *cough Wullie*! Try this fist out a bit, I'm beginning to like it a bit myself. With that being said I agree with the article, not that the person needs to be a sandan to do it, but, probably at least a brown belt. www.fightingarts.com/reading/article.php?id=215Osu!

It feels "tight" I will try it sparring and see if the recipients notice any difference

I've only used it on punching the wall in my spare room (waiting on makiwara stand) and shadow boxing. I haven't got to test it out on kumite yet...let me know what you think! I may do a little tomorrow night, to see. Osu!

I have tried this on some pads and it does feel strong. The only problem I am seeing with this fist is the ease to make it.
In fighting I routinely keep an open hand when blocking. It is difficult to make this fist quick when parrying/punching.
Osu!

It is difficult to make this fist quick when parrying/punching. Osu! I think it takes some practice but I must admit, I'm finding the same issue. I don't think when any of us started with the normal four finger curl method that we were able to go open handed to close fist as easy as we now can....maybe I'm grasping for straws here, too, not sure. When I look at my beginner students, I still find many of them making many mistakes on making a normal fist, even though I stress it. After about a year or so, most normal students should be able to start doing it right without thinking, and maybe the same is for this 3 finger method? Osu!

I had the same issue last night, myself and a couple of my 1st dans were trying it and it is difficult to make quickly, to a point where I wouldn't attemp it while sparring. It was fine if you took time to make it right before hitting... say for makiwara

I'm going to still keep practicing to see if I can ever adjust to be able to do this as quickly & naturally as the four finger method. For the time being, this will just be an alternate fist for me that I'll use on pad work, makiwara, etc. I'll keep any of you updated if I ever am able to do this "naturally." Osu!
