Osu! Just thought i would add Jon Bluming's Kyokushin Budokai to the list of other Kyokushin styles.
I've added this quick quote that I wrote on my website (it is to highlight the difference between MMA and Kyokushin Budokai):
'The All-Round Fighting system of Jon Bluming Kaicho (10th Dan), more than adequately fills in those ‘gaps’ that MMA, by its very format (time limits, weight categories, mandatory gloves, etc.), has inherited. For example, in August 1988 ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, a fearsome boxer at the height of his prowess, broke his right hand in a street brawl and he didn’t even knock the man out. Why would this extraordinary athlete break his hand? The answer lies; as in MMA, in the rule system that has grown alongside boxing to protect the fighter, in this case his hands. Boxers wear hand wraps and gloves with attached thumbs to minimise the damage to what is effectively the ‘tools of his/her trade’. The Kyokushin Budokai Karate (KBK) system that is the backbone of the Jigoku Dojo works from the premise that you do not have time to wrap your hands, or stretch, or mentally prepare if you are attacked in the street or your home. Its open hand striking system is superlative for inflicting damage without damaging the hands and is designed to either disable the attacker’s aggressive actions, or as a set up for closed hands striking. And while we thoroughly enjoy submission wrestling sessions, KBK itself has a 30 second time limit on the ground, which in all honesty is slightly more than you would get in the street before your attacker’s friends would join in the fray. This is why that within the All-Round Fighting framework we also work with a ‘gi’ (judo/jujitsu jacket) to utilise the most effective method of dealing with an aggressor who may be wearing a coat or jacket and turning that article of clothing to our advantage.'
