Agreed on all points.
Same with our particular Karate Dojo.
Not all schools are equal though.

Years ago I did MT and lost a lot of weight and got fit also had lots of fun. But moved away from the town and there isn't a good club close to me so that I can train. But will look to start something up again in those lines at the end of the year.

I teach a kyokushin base but also teach Thai, Dutch, and Japanese kickboxing methods I have learned over the years in different Muay Thai camps (muangsurin which is tatted on my left arm and the famous southpaw camp Jockygym!) and Dutch and Japanese kickboxing camps. I was fortunate to learn knockdown karate from those that also trained Muay Thai and Kickboxing so I saw the benefits immediately. Unfortunately where I live we get more interest in kickboxing and Muay Thai so i get thrown a lot of opportunities to train title belt fighters...however i really would love to produce some good knockdown competitors but these days most people that want to fight in my area choose MMA or kickboxing/MT. Hard to compete when it costs money to fight in most knockdown tournaments and is free for MMA/kickboxing...hell I can get a first time fighter travel, food, and hotel paid for with Muay Thai/MMA..wish I could do the same for knockdown and part of the problem why IMHO its losing popularity to other sogokakutogi. Sorry if I went on a tangent but to go back to the original intent of this thread, I heavily believe in the values of kickboxing, Muay Thai, etc. However, I believe you can only really learn either art by those that fought int he ring themselves, otherwise there are some finer points somebody that has no ring experience just won't have. Fortunately, every legit Muay Thai and most legit kickboxing styles believe in this, too...fortunately for me, anyway, since I agree with that. I believe that kickboxing and Muay Thai help fill in the gaps that knockdown karate doesn't have BUT I believe knockdown karate fits in the gaps that kickboxing/MT have . The only other thing, IMHO, to be a complete barehanded martial artist is to have some real experience with wrestling or Judo, and some type of grappling based art. Osu!
