www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18002220Funny how a(n alleged) terrorist can't be deported but a self-defence instructor can be banned. Where's the logic? Is this the thin end of the wedge? Gary

It rarely helps to be wise after the event, but some time back I got the nod that 'the establishment' are looking at all MA, MMA, RBSD etc
This 'banning' might be a complete coincidence, but the chap who told me seemed to be in the know.
Forewarned is forearmed. I emphasise the benefits of discipline and sport in my coaching and would advise others to do the same. At the moment regulation (here in the UK) may not be a priority, but in the future, who knows?
Some years ago we all laughed when they said doormen would have to sit a written test and be nice to people ...

This is a disturbing development, but not unprecedented. There were occasions where governments denied martial training to the common folk. This resulted in clandestine training, as well as fight practice disguised as dance, capoeira for example, and dare I say. . .kata. ;D
Sorry, Gary, couldn't resist.

The people that want to train will still find a way.

Undoubtedly -
But it would be a shame if - like gun clubs - we are decimated in a government purge. That's the way things happen here, a few toffs who think self-defence is best done with a riding crop will decide for the rest of us.
One directive to local authorities that they are not to hire schools etc to any clubs that 'teach violence' could have a huge impact.

Hiding the violence to try and stop violence is not the answer.

Crazy isn't it?
Two boxers fight with a bottle and a tripod, but the UK is now 'powerless' to stop them fighting at a football stadium - for £millions - under a Luxembourg licence.
But self-defence? Tut tut, can't have a bad example can we?
You couldn't make it up ...
