At about the 30 second mark Senshido lands a good gedan mawashi geri that at first I thought was a chudan and a liver shot that dropped Rory. Either way Rory dug in and got right back up throughout the other matches and kept going. Osu!

I will let Wullie explain in full. In that class kickboxing is part of the training. The sparring is a mixture of things. But the grading fights are what I would call dojo sparring

There is different ways the name "kickboxing" is used.
I've seen it used for what I would call point karate styles with foam dipped protective gear, above the waist only (American style) kick rules, K-1 rules, modified Thaiboxing rules, and even full MT.
I know for a fact Wullie has had kickboxing ring fights himself and has trained fighters for such fights.
I myself trained in a "hybrid" style called Tjakai (I started Thai style MT before this) which was Kyokushin mixed with Kickboxing/Muay Thai. Part of the grading was knockdown kumite rules and full MT rules sparring along with pad work, technique, showing that you can hold pads all for shodan. Everyone of the black belts at the Tjakai dojo I trained at had experience in knockdown karate rules tournaments and/or muay thai, kickboxing ring fights..and some had BJJ tournament/MMA fight experience as well. They usually fought in both Sabaki rules and kickboxing muay thai fights meaning every black belt at that dojo had competition experience.
At the end of the day I don't care what somebody calls something that they do as long as it's effective. "Kickboxing" and "karate" are such a broad term it's kind of hard to classify what each is. "Muay Thai" is used in such a broad way against my own personal liking it's becoming almost the same, as well.
Just my .02 cents and maybe an explanation to some how the term "kickboxing" is used in various different styles. Osu!

its a kickboxing grading, but i don't specify what what the fights are in the title used to be whoever was sitting the grading had to do 3x2min rounds K1 style with me at the end, but when i saw my first Kyokushin grading i was more than impressed with how far the Dojo fights pushed the participant and i decided to change the set up of my gradings to push my folks further. so a bit of thought was needed because i knew i couldn't do 30 fights like that if we were allowing head punches so i wouldn't expect anyone else to do it, touch contact isn't much of a test and trying to do touch to the head with contact to the body is just too hard for people to do when excited or knackerd so i decided to go with the Dojo style sparring. Normal sparring at my club is K1 style, but we practice a lot of other stuff as well because as i said in another thread its much easier to get MT fights for my guys than any other style, also add a lot of stuff that would not be allowed in any sport fight just to make sure my folks are effective Hope this it explains it! OSU!
