Getting back to it. Blue belt test at the end of January. I would also like to compete in the tournament at Falls Church, VA this coming Feburary. A lot of focus will be spent on improving technique and endurance with minimal focus on maintaining strength.

Man time flies when you haven't been on here for a while. Still training with Yuji and Beth and training in the SF methods. Have had a couple of injuries over the past few months, pulled hamstring that kept me out of training for a month, back, etc. My main focus now is to really work technique instead of strength and conditioning. Shadowboxing, heavy bag and forms then a modified S&S. There was a post on strongfirst about incorporating the barbell into S&S where you substitue a move i.e. bench for TGU and deadlift for swing. I keep the reps as proscribed in easy strength: 15-25 for the bench and rule of ten for the DL. I'll do the barbell work 3 days/week and regular S&S the other 3 days. This weeks training so far: Sunday: OS resets for warmup Bag work: Jab cross to jodan mawashi geri 10 minutes 1 hand 24KG swings, 10 on top of the minute Close grip bench ladders 185 X 3(1,2,3)
Monday: OS resets for warmup shadow boxing 3 2 minute rounds with 1 minute rest 1 hand 24KG swings, 10 on top of the minute TGU 24KG, 5L/5R
Tuesday: OS resets for warmup just did deadlifts, only had 4 hours sleep the night before. 245x5, 265x3, 295x2
Wednesday: OS resets for warmup 1 hand 24KG swings, 10 on top of the minute TGU 24KG, 5L/5R (left knee still bothering me from a fall I had at work last month, just went to lunge position on TGU then back down.) Class tonight

Sunday 4/28 OS resets Deadlift: 335 x 6 singles, rested 10 minutes between each set. I can see the wisdom behind Dan John by limiting this to 6. Not as strong in the deadlift like I would want to be. My goal is 405 by August.
40kg 1/2 TGUs 3L/3R
Celebrated anniversary with wife afterwards, Captain America then Brazilian Steakhouse....got my moneys worth.
Tonight, swings and TGUs and have to polish up Enshin Katas 1 and 2 for Wednesday's test.

Great stuff Paul. Which program are you following of Dan John? I did ES and got my working max up for the deadlift very easy. The rep scheme I think was no more than 10 reps total and 5 reps per set. 4,3,2,1; 5 x 2, 3 x 3 etc.

Great stuff Paul. Which program are you following of Dan John? Not a program from Dan John, but incorporating the rep schemes outlined in Easy Strength. The program I'm working is a hybrid kettlebell/barbell program built around S&S. Simple way to add barbells to S&SYesterday's workout: OS resets Enshin Kata 1 and 2 Close Grip Bench Press with Fat Grips: 205 X 3(1,2,3) 2h 24 KG swings, 10x10 cool down stretch Yellow belt test tonight.
