Osu!
Some of you have known about this movie for maybe a year or so, it's finally out.
I ordered it recently, and watched it a couple nights ago. In my opinion, an excellent job was done, in the production and execution of this movie.
If you haven't done this type of karate, you might be surprised at the sacrifice and hours of practice it takes to compete.
I can't speak for all of you, but when I got a bit older, when I said I did karate, or point karate tournaments, I was usually lumped in with the foam dipped padded "freestyle" types (there are some good ones, but more bad ones in my neck of the woods).
Without going into trying to explain how scoring is done, and judging is done, you must do the techniques properly in order to score. I competed in a different org but some of the senseis on this vid. once competed in the same org..The AAU WKF style way of fighting is actually an "older way" that uses the waza ari and ippon system (they now use a new system for WKF). I actually prefer this system of scoring.
I didn't always have the prettiest technique so often times when I won, I would physically beat down my opponent with non scoring techniques until they really dropped their guard to finally score with clean technique . The kids in this video have much better technique than I ever had, and probably why I enjoy watching the vid. They make Unsu look like it's a kata that anybody could do good, too LOL...

I give this movie a 5 out of 5, and I probably am biased but seeing the behind the scenes going on..and the differences of each practitioner. One of the kids is raised by a single Mom because his Dad passed away when he was young, and he also battles with ADHD...it tugged at my heart strings to see his Mom explain how she tries her best to work and budget her money so she can afford for her son to go to nationals, and be with him at nationals.
One girl who I believe might be in the trailer breaks down in tears, talking about how her Dad works multiple jobs, so she can compete.
There is more than just these two stories in the bluray, too.
It was very interesting for me to see banners of someone that was a few years older than me, who used to compete in some of the tournaments I did, too..and another instructor's student, remembering when that instructor was one of the best back when I was competing. I'm biased because I won nationals in the mid to late 90's, and remember my Dad and Step Mom scrimping and saving for me to compete, and my first taste at training like these kids, did. This bluray is an awesome piece in my collection, to see kids that are still doing it, and looking much better than I ever did with their near perfect form!
