Or do people who want to study half a dozen styles and train in every range get on your nerves?
Got a bloke on my case at the moment asking for private coaching - kicks only - as he does boxing and bjj already.
He doesn't want to train in a club, just get kicking drills. I'm tempted to charge him £40 an hour but part of me doesn't want to help.

There are a couple issues going on here. I totally agree with MilkManX. I would take the guy's money and offer him the best kicking instruction I could. Besides, it may lead to something bigger: Kicking only seminars; liver shot seminars; headbutts and Sabaki seminars. On studying half a dozen styles, if I had more time and money I'd study a dozen. No joke. Not only do you learn different technique (I never regretted learning something new), you get a fresh perspective on other topics like business philosophy or marketing. At the very least you make connections.

Going back and learning another style, IE shotokan to goju ryu there are somethings within the style you would like to focus on that the regular dojo class cannot in greater depth and length.
I would take his money with a clear conscience. He is asking for something and you are providing first rate knowledge. How much is your time, knowledge and patience worth? I am sure lessons in kicking will extend to other things.

I agree with the 'charging for good service' part. But it's the way he asks. He's already informed me he's 'done' Thai, Shotokan, Kyokushin and Kung Fu, now he wants to add Enshin kicks to his arsenal. He's probably watched a youtube of Kancho breaking baseball bats and thought "That'd be a useful trick" - forgetting the lifetime of effort that went into it. I rather suspect he'll be 'injured' when I call him to arrange a time - or he'll forget his cash ... There's a certain type that knows all there is to know about MA. All the styles, all the variations, all the applications. They can tell you why 'x' is better than 'y' for 'z', who said what and why 'a' & 'b' won't work because Funakoshi said so etc. But they're usually the ones who forget to practise something until it flows. And sweat. As they don't train properly they never build up any faith in what they're doing, so they hop around from style to style hoping for something that works like a dream after they've been shown it a few times. I see that as very different to people on here that put effort and dedication into different systems. Gary UPDATE: He 'can't make it' this week and he's 'on a course' for the next two. But he'll be in touch. Apparently.
