This is Israel Velasco's gym and has some roots in Kyokushin but is also a lot different. For those that don't know, Kakutogi more or less translates to fighting arts. The primary arts that will make up what Israel teaches is Eurasian Style Kickboxing (Thai style, Japanese style, and Dutch style), Kyokushin, Boxing, Modernized Goshin Jitsu, and modernized self defense weapons & tools. As some of you already know, Israel is a good friend and a student of mine who I trained and cornered back in '12 for a title fight against Bo Reedus who is trained by Thai Thaiboxing Champ. Saohin Srisuk (S-1 Champ, trainer of UFC fighters, and many Thai title belts). Israel has been training in Wrestling, Boxing, Eurasian Kickboxing and Knockdown Karate for the better part of 23 years with many Kickboxing & Muay Thai fights under his belt, and title belts he has won. Israel has sparred with the likes of DJ "Mighty Mouse," Josh Barnett, Maurice Smith, and even gone through K-1 trials that were reffed/judged by Francisco Filho. Israel has trained under some of the same people I have and some others I have not. Israel is more of a boxer than I am and also has a good network of those that have focus primarily on boxing.
The uniform is kickboxing shorts and instead of wearing a dogi and obi, a color shirt system will be worn. For adults it will go: white, blue, green, brown, and black. The kids system is still being created but will more than likely have at least two other colors added. The shirts are currently being designed so the uniform is not enforced yet.
There will be primarily Japanese terminology used, bowing, saying of "Osu!" and so forth. There will be some kata too and option to wear dogi for upper belts. There is kumite for Boxing, Kickboxing, Knockdown, and more. This is a completely independent school for the time being.
The address is 28717 Pacific Hwy Unit 6-b Fed-way Wa 98003 (USA) this is about 20-40 minutes South of Seattle depending on Traffic and how where in Seattle
The schedule will be posted ASAP and so will be the website which is still being worked on but the domain has already been purchased.
If you're in the area and interested in training, message me for now. If you have any questions message me here or on facebook. This is all still a work in progress, so there is some trial and error going on. I am more of a consultant helping Israel when I can but I am the creator of the syllabus, gradings, and so forth. I am also privately instructing Israel and observing, overseeing what he's doing. I will have more involvement from time to time but it will be a role similar to what I have here due to the amount of free time I have .
Osu!
