Well Aftter a Seminar Last Saturday 30th June, and Meeting Shihan Metin, it looks like Ashihara in the UK is going to be growing. We need more Ashihara Dojo's in the UK so we can get more presence. The Good thing is its non political too so it doesn't matter if you're NIKO, AIK, AKI etc as long as its Ashihara as it core then the Dojo's and Instructors and Students are welcome to the Alliance.
We do need to look at syllabus and get it as close as possible to each other but that would need working TOGETHER to get one that means on joint seminars everyone knows what's being taught etc.
Its a long Hall but I can see Ashihara being Big in the UK

We do need to look at syllabus and get it as close as possible to each other Why? As long as you agree on competition rules, every club and dojo (IMO) should then train hard and find a way to achieve success. If everyone agrees on how to train, you'll just go to seminars and do what you normally do ... Can you imagine if soccer clubs all had to train in exactly the same way? If Arsenal had to use the same format as Man Utd, Chelsea as Accrington Stanley? It wouldn't work, yet as soon as karate clubs work together it's almost like everyone wants to agree and thereby remove the individual instructors initiative. It baffles me. Gary

Gary Gary You are actually correct, it doesn't really matter on the Syllabus as long as "its" all there I know when we've popped down to do seminars with you we still manage to go with the flow. (when's your next seminar by the way?) Thanks for that Gary OSU!!!

I agree with Gary also, the KSK allows individual clubs to use their own syllabus, I spoke to other large organisations before joining the KSK but was told I would have to adopt their syllabus... which is why I didnt join them

Seems like the only NIKO Ashihara Dojo in California USA has closed shop.
I think there are 2 in the Michigan area...
Very small in the USA.

Seems like the only NIKO Ashihara Dojo in California USA has closed shop. It was very abrupt. We've had a lot of new students from there (they were only about 4-5 miles away).

I'm seeing new Kata available on YouTube for Ashihara Karate but unfortunately I don't rate their practicality.
For one Kata I've seen, Nage No Kata Sono Yon is a bit OTT when it comes to the spinning Kicks etc
For me Nage Kata is what it is, A THROWING Kata, In my stream of Ashihara I have 2 Nage Kata Sho & Dai, Sho is simialar to Nage Kata Sono Ni where as Dai is similar to Nage San but many differences, each combination ends with a throw inclunding Uchi Mata, Ippon Seionage and others.
I'm not too much involved in Competition but more involved in the Bunkai & Oyho of the Kata we practice.

I would love to know if anyone knows any more Jissen Kata or any Goshin Kata, Kancho in his books described the Ashihara Kata as having 5 of each Kata. So would love to know if they exist?

MARTIN H (from another forum that some of us have membership of) posted this and I wanted to share it with you NIKO Ashihara new rules (facepunches allowed)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NIKO Ashihara is going to hold their open Eurasian cup in May. In their tournament pamphlets they list 3 events included in the cup. *Ashihara karate kumite (apparently trad ashihara knockdown) *Kata (as it sounds) *Full contact kumite. The "full contact kumite" is only open to adult men. uses 10 oz. gloves and apparently allows punches (but not elbows) to the head. eng.ashihara-karate.net/ashih...014-may-02-04/
So.... Kyokushinkan Shinken shobu inspired or glove-karate inspired?
Just the local guys pushing their own thing, or a official trial of alternate ashihara rules that might become established side by side with knockdown (as shinken shobu is in kyokushinkan)? I think its a good move, what's your thoughts?

My thoughts? Stupid.
Gloves will inhibit grabbing which is a trademark of Ashihara karate.
If Ashihara students want to wear gloves and face punch there are many open tournaments under those rules.

I agree Gary
If however they use MMA mitts they will be able to punch AND grab with them as it would be the same MMA gloves as we use.
