Why bother?
It's a sport. Sport has rules.
Find a ruleset you like and fight to win. Anything less is messing around.

That is only NIKO right? Their org is pretty small now so maybe they are trying to change it up to gather interest.

As you might have read in my introduction I am training Ashihara Karate. Our organisation is called AIKO, Ashihara International Karate Organisation. The system I am practicing is developed by Dave Jonkers Shihan & Sem Schilt Shihan. We have Dojo in several countries, but the main are based in Europe. Our system is very dynamic thanks to sabaki and influences from other Martial Art forms. If you need more information, you can contact me using private message. Osu

Thanks for that video! I love Ashihara as it uses the same principles that we use in Enshin.

Osu!
My thoughts on adding Shinkenshobu to Ashihara tournament competition? Wearing 10oz. boxing gloves will take away
the grabbing. The standup grappling arsenal would be limited. You could do the Thai clinch, hip throws, sweeping
loin throw (if you hook under the armpit). Using MMA gloves is an option. Getting hit with 3oz. gloves however,
would probably lead to a lot more knockouts vs. 10oz. boxing gloves. In Seattle, Washington (USA), there is a branch
of Matsushima's Kyokushin who has an annual event every Spring time known as the Great Northwest Kyokushin Open.
They have their standard knockdown divisions. They also have a Glove Karate Division where they wear MMA gloves, and
are allowed face punches, Judo throws etc. I do not believe there is groundfighting allowed. My late friend/
colleague, Paul Silva Jr. of Jissenteki Karate won the heavyweight division back in 2012 under these Glove Rules.
