Nice work Ev!!! I have a thought with regard to fighting the bulls. This is a very popular rodeo sport in this hemisphere (North, Central and South America) So it is not unfathomable that Sosai did not try doing it a number of times. However, i wonder how much of it was also a projection to appeal to the western conscience, that eastern karateka were as tough as these cowboys that were romanticized through out the world at that time. I mean lets face it.......you want to be a tough guy, you succede with in your culture and excede all levels of macho there........and then you see cowboys performing Herculean tasks......a great promo it would be to do the same.or at least mimic it.

OSU Gary, and everyone else (oh, there's a second page!) thank you! Do you feel that it jives with your impression of Sosai? I worry that what seemed to be truly important to him is getting lost in the whole "look how much arse he kicked" thing, you know? I worry too, that the truth about so many people, and their stories, will be lost. I really would love to write a solid biography of all the leaders in my lineage, starting with Oyama and working my way down the line from there. OSU

Now, I do think that Bluming has something of an axe to grind. I wouldn't take everything he says as impartial. I am hoping that I'll get lucky and get to meet one of Sosai's daughters sometime, and that she'll be willing to answer some questions. OSU!

I have some theories of my own regarding Oyama and the early years of Kyokushin. However, it will just p*** people off if I voice them and they're just opinions after all so I'll keep them to myself . I wasn't around in those days so what does a 31 y/o youngster like me really KNOW about what really happened and went on? I can only form my own opinion by interviews with those that were there. In regards to Bluming Kaicho, the man was there and has had more experience then anybody I know when it comes to Judo and Kyokushin. I have yet to meet the person that I agree with 100%, too. Osu!

Maybe if we get a chance we can BS about it over a beer this weekend. Depends on who is sitting nearby though. Some people can be so sensitive! Ugh.

Was thinking about you EV. Went to a seminar in Canada where Shihan Fugiwara taught and we have a sitting circle wherre we could ask him tons of questions about anything. He talked alot about being Sosai's uchi dechi and what sosai was like.
