I'm not Okinawan, but the style I've been training in for 51 years this October, is an Okinawa Karate-do style. Both the founder and successor were born and raised in what is now known as Nanjo, Okinawa. They moved to the USA in 1957, they broke away from the restrictiveness of the JKF and/or any Okinawa Government Office and/or any Okinawan Governing Body and the like because our founder didn't want to be under their rules and their regulations. He wanted to be his own man!!
So, long story short, I've just came across this link, and I've taken it to mean that if ANY OKINAWA Karate style HASN'T been blessed by the powers that be in Okinawa...you're NOTHING because WE SAID SO!!
Proof, we have it...lineage, we have it...documentations, we have it...affirmations, we have it...peas in a pod, we have that too...HOWEVER, no matter what, it's their final decision of how they'll interpret our documentations...meaning...WE DON'T APPROVE...stamped across any membership into their holy of holy's organization(s)...back to square one.
I respect a many of the Okinawan Masters that are still alive and still running the show in Okinawa, I bow to them; they've earned that from me. I suppose our founder angered the wrong people in Okinawa way back when, and we're damned because of that anyway. I don't know...I wasn't born until the year they moved to USA, and I didn't begin to train with them until 1964.
Maybe I should quit the style that I've dedicated my life to for over 50 years, and disavow the founder and his successor, and join a much more respectable Okinawan style, start from the beginning, so that I can meet some expectations!!
Proof is ON THE FLOOR!! I've no reservations about sharing the floor with any MAist, and especially anyone from Okinawa...None...I welcome it with open arms!!
Your thoughts, please!!
