Hi all,
I have a student who is quite short, I'd guess 5'2" but with a large chest and thighs. She struggles to ever feel comfortable in her Gi's so I was wondering if anyone has come across and solved this problem.
Basically what measurements can I provide to the suppliers to select a Gi for her? as height, the only measurement they seem to use is pointless!

I had issues with gi sizing when I had a larger chest and hips. To make some rash generalisations, I found that gis seem to be cut for a 'triangle' figure, certainly not for an 'hourglass' or a 'pear', so the trousers are really not roomy at all on the hips and thighs. I found that if you can get the trousers to fit, the jacket will almost certainly be big enough (sadly, if the hips of the jacket fit, the chest tends to be huge). Japanese cut gis tend to have a shorter leg length which might help, but she might have to have the legs taken up a bit if the rest fits OK. Are there any other students who would let her try on their gis because trial and error is probably the best way to go? Sometimes, I can see the appeal of a kickboxing uniform!

I had this problem too - as I have a big legs so had to order a size above so my Gi pants weren't so tight on me lol.
Best thing I feel is to measure her shoulder length & torso length - this should generally get you the right measurements for a Gi.
Some people I've sold Gi's to have bought a size or two above & get the jacket or pants tailored to fit them.
Likelihood is you won't find a good match - maybe it's better to buy a larger size & get it tailored to fit. Doesn't cost that much to do.

If you can decide what size gi fits width wise, I can make enquiries about a shorter version of that size

Thanks guys, she knows she'll need to make adjustments but obviously some are easier to make them others.
I'll get what measurements I can Senshido and hopefully we can help her, considering in the mean time suggesting she train in white joggers while we help her find an alternative.
