Not just sportspeople, who no doubt are looking for any kind of edge, proven or not, but everyday folk who aren't particularly schooled in the scientific method, will find traditional healing methods appealing. I figure leeches and bloodletting will be the rage at the next Olypmics.

It's happening now - 'wet cupping' involves making an incision first and then applying suction, so bloodletting in effect! I think Ben Goldacre calls it a voluntary tax on the gullible.

Maybe chasing the placebo effect? They may improve their performance as they think they're doing something which helps with their performance?

I've tried some right stupid stuff in training and exercise.
After a life time of self inflicted and unscientific abuse;
"A workout should give you more than it takes out of you" and "Don't eat shit" pretty much covers the lessons learnt.
