I'm trying to find a video of that kata to study off of and I can't find it off of YouTube.
If anyone knows of a link please tell me.
Please don't give me links to DVDs or something I have to buy. I think it's silly to buy a video when I only need one kata.
Thank you!

Definately not just you. I always shook my head when I went to the instructors courses every year (BKK) and he'd been tinkering ...
We had a solid training system and a hard fighting system. I'll never understand why he felt the need to bugger about with it just to keep people amused.

Sorry, don't have any links to videos, but from the description provided by kvw, I am underwhelmed by what sounds like more busy work.

I have done this in the middle of the road following the yellow line, many times at my former dojo, in Hackensack, NJ. It was a bit unnerving when some cars decided to come very close and scream at us.....or throw soda cups out the window!! I did not like it very much, but Shihan was always challenging us and our fears.....this may have been a little over the top though. Osu!!

Joe, LOL I think you need to go into further detail about doing kata in the middle road of the yellow line!!!! I had to reread that twice to make sure I'm not just tired seeing things. Osu!

Joe. You sure it wasn't the cops making you walk a straight line?

Seriously did taikyoku sono ichi/ni/san "tate" in the middle of Main Street in Hackensack. We were an IKO3 dojo and that was part of the syllabus......well I dont think they would have approved the middle of the street, but you never know. Was a bit odd, especially when you were sweating profusely and went outside at 10 pm in freezing temperatures to train in the middle of the street......ahhhhh good times....NOT!!

Joe, I'd never doubt you, you've always came across to me as a straight shooter and somebody I respect. I just find it still a bit crazy and funny My first MT coach driving me and his now wife (who's gorgeous and a known MT fighter) to Canada for some fights we had made us try chewing tabacco, even his wife. I found that odd then and still now...his wife got so sick she couldn't do her fight that night! The only other crazy martial art story I have off the top of my head is when I met Frank Dux for the first time... Osu!

www.seattlekarate.net/rank.htmlThere's proof. I've done Taikyoku Ura and I'm very certain that there's a Tate. Thanks for the link, so I guess Tate is pretty much the same kata but in a straight line?!

Kancho says it is required, so we do it. I look at it as using some of the same techniques in different transitions. Tate and Ura are pretty simple so not much effort to learn or do once in awhile.

Taikyoku sono itchi tate is just like Taikyoku sono itchi BUT instead of first turning left, you step forward. Each turn you make is 180 degrees instead of the original value. You turn the same direction you normally would.
Oh, and that is primarily practiced in IKO3.
