He's one of the very few I feel deserve this rank. If he doesn't then who does?! Osu!

IFK isn't that big here in the USA is why, but I know loads of other quality kyokushinka that are with the IFK. I'd almost dare say Kyokushin and similar styles aren't that big at all in the USA, period...the popularity has actually gone down a LOT in the USA since the 90s, unfortunately. It seems that there is more of it in the UK, Europe, and other parts of the world. Osu!

Yeah, there used to be like 6 or 7 dojos just here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Now there are two, one being wholly independent, but kind of allied with us, and then our little org only has a few dojos under it. I'm not sure if IFK ever really had much of a foothold here in the states. Anyone know?

The IFK has been in the USA for quite a while, via Shihan Monaco uskyokushin.com/people/monaco.htmHowever, it's primarily stayed in the upper east coast, and not really spread to the midwest, or west coast...and in all honesty, I don't think it ever will make it to the west coast. The reason for this is because there are other orgs that already have a "strong hold," and offshoots such as Enshin. As far as it is, knockdown has died tremendously in the USA since the late 90s/early 00s. This has a lot to do with MMA popularity, and martial arts associated with MMA. As an argument I've said for many years, you often don't have to pay money to compete in MMA, Muay Thai, etc. neither. I had ALL my expenses paid for the latter when I fought. For most of us that compete in knockdown karate, we have to pay for everything, and the tournament fees, too. If someone isn't a full time instructor with a profitable dojo, has sponsors, or the "cream of the crop" in an org...competing in knockdown karate on a regular basis can be a "bit of pocket change." Osu!
