How do some of you yudansha tie your obi?
Since I have an Isami with the gold dan bars that go all the way around I tie mine in a way so the back really shows to the front, but you can see the gold dan bars still.
Why? I don't think it's that important that others see my label, katakana, and kanji, they can see the gold dan bars if a "title" is that important to them. The katakana means something to me (just my last name!) but I don't care if others see it or not.
Over the years, I've noticed that many people tie theirs differently.
I know this is no big question but it's something that really is never talked about and I'm a bit curious to how some of you tie yours.
Really, all it does is keep my dogi top somewhat closed! LOL! However, I'm curious to see if any of you have some specific way you tie yours and maybe it's an organization or dojo specific way? Osu!

I tie mine so that the stripes are hanging on my right side, my belt kind of hangs sideways.. as in my name etc faces to the side rather than front

I tie mine so that my name is on the left and the other kanji is on the right. Also, my belt lays such that they look like "floppy bunny ears"; they "fold to the front" so that the kanji is visible. OSU!

I was hoping we'd get somebody say "in our org.." or "in our dojo" we tie it like this! The reason why I was wondering is because I've seen people from the same dojo that seem to have their katakana name side and kanji side on the same side!
Something for the non-black belt (mudansha) to be aware of where they have an advantage. When you get your shodan and want to break in your belt you have to find a way to tie it and stick to that way if you want to break in the belt! When you're a mudansha you can tie the belt any damn way since you typically don't have kanji and katakana...unelss you have one of those fancy belts which I've seen happen at green and brown belt a few times! Osu!

The general rule we have here is your name and dan bars on your right, association name on your left, its the rule in my dojo's and in most others I've been to

What faces out just depends on how the belt lies. Mine is still a bit stiff (my belt that is)

Sorry PO1... No set way to tie the obi in our organization either.
I wear mine with my name on the right side and tie it so that the ends hand down in the front with the embroidery showing to the front.
One thing that is different about Yoshukai kuro obi is that we do not use dan bars on the belts. The side of the belt that has the label, i always have on the left.
Osu!

Shito ryu and goju ryu, no dan bars, neither. At least the type I learned and saw. I will probably do the way Senshido does because it just makes sense to keep some type of unification since I'm in the same organization. I'm sure the kancho of my org. does the same as senshido. I do like uniformity is why I'll abide by this. However, I know even in some Kyokushin there is no, "one way." Osu!

The ironic thing about this is, I got called out about the way my belt was tied at a Friday night workout with you guys...and I had it tied this way! So I had to untie the belt, retie the belt, untie the belt again (it was still wrong) and retie it before I could join the class... OSU!

I have always worn mine where the belt hangs down where the kanji is visible from the front...

Most people I know in Enshin do their name on their left and the org kanji on the right. I prefer the fold down knot like Hangtime also.

Should be some clear instructions to how the kuro obi should be worn..not saying there isn't in your organization per se but in my own experience in all the karate dojo I trained in I was never told nor corrected if I was wearing it wrong. This is part of what sparked me making this thread, because I have no problem with "one way," but it was never taught to me...until now ! Osu!
