It's with great sadness that I'm posting that Shihan Bobby Lowe has passed. I believe he's gone to a happier place, and that his spirit will live on in all of us. Osu!

Very sad to hear this about Shihan. I trained for 4 years with Shihan and he was a great instructor and was good to everyone that visited and trained at his dojo. Rest in peace, Shihan!

Shihan Bobby Lowe, who is considered Sosai Oyama's first live in student (uchideshi) and remained loyal to Kyokushinkaikan until the day he died was posthumously awarded 10th Dan (judan) by Shokei Matsui (head of IKO1) at the 10th WT last weekend. Matsui is the head of IKO 1 but is a 8th Dan (hachidan). For him to award the highest rank possible, that not even he feels entitled to have, says a lot for Shihan Bobby Lowe, and the respect he has earned from everyone that knew him, or just knew of him. The IKO 1 does not hand out judan...in fact, before this, I believe Sosai Oyama was the only one to ever hold that rank and he's the one that created Kyokushinkaikan.
None of us will ever get to the level of Lowe Shihan in martial arts, but that doesn't mean that you can't try to improve, until the day you pass away, just like Lowe Shihan. Lowe Shihan, by all accounts of everyone that knew him never talked bad about other sensei or students, and always cared of the well being of others even when his own health was failing. I myself, could take a lesson in humility from Lowe Shihan. Osu!

They awarded the judan to Shihan during the last day of the World Tournament. His daughter, Barbara was there to accept it on his behalf. They did a great video montage and Kancho spoke for several minutes about Shihan Lowe. It was hard not to feel emotional about it but it was a very nice ceremony.
