If my son goes to sleep here soon (knock on wood) I'm trying to get a workout in and try that footwork out more with the front kick and with some other kicks to see how they feel.

Home workout today. Quick warm-up then my dog and I took a little run for 20 minutes around the neighborhood, roughly 2 miles total. I then went out back and jury-rigged one of my Thai pads onto the clothesline pole. I then worked several techniques for reps on each side: oi tsuki, gyaku tsuki, kake tsuki, shita tsuki, hiza mawashi geri (using the same hand motions to do a two hand grab), and mawashi geri. No linear kicks as the ground was really muddy and I didn't want to mess up the pad too much. Was hoping to do more but had to cut it a bit short, so I finished here and got some good stretching in.

Went to go get my workout in but found out our hot water tank was leaking. After tinkering with that and troubleshooting a bit, I didn't have much more time until work so I squeezed in a quick circuit. 45 sec of med ball ab twists, 45 sec of seiken push-ups, 45 sec leg raise hold with med ball impact conditioning, and 45 sec of fingertip push-ups. Did it twice with 60 sec rest in between. Then did a front plank and side planks for max time, and finished with using my homemade maki-stick.

Missed adding a few workouts here.
FRIDAY:[/U] Home workout today.
SATURDAY: Went to go get my workout in but found out our hot water tank was leaking.
TODAY: Managed to get in a mild workout. I was hoping for something a bit more intense, but beggars can't be choosers I guess. Did a good warm-up then worked for about 10 minutes on footwork in kumite dachi (box stepping, sabaki positioning, and Kancho's footwork drill mentioned in this journal before; working both sides). I then worked on some basic fighting combinations for about 20 minutes or so, focusing first on hand-hand, then hand-leg, then leg-leg, and finally leg-hand. Finished with some stretching. Wanted to get some stamina training in too but unfortunately I'm on desk duty tonight at work ("riding the pine") so we have to show up earlier.

I had to replace my hot water heater a few years ago. Hope yours is holding up better.

OSU! Fortunately it just looks like the pressure relief valve. Cheap, easy fix.
Lots of house chores and court meant no stamina training tonight, but thankfully I did manage to make it to class. Shihan, Mike, and I tonight, and it was a great workout. We warmed up then did some partner stretching for the four basic kicks, then worked a little ido geiko from kumite dachi. We then hopped into some bagwork, monkey in the middle style. One of us would stand in the middle and the others would hold pads on either side of the person in the middle. We worked yoko geri with a step behind, mawashi geri chudan/jodan with a step in front (I actually managed a lot of jodan this time with decent power), and mawashi geri gedan with a step in front. We then turned to face one pad holder and would mae geri the pad in front and ushiro geri the pad behind.
We then worked some combinations with kosaho (switch step). A lead punch - rear punch with kosaho (to right lead) - rear mawashi geri combination felt fantastic for me. Everything hit hard and flowed well. We got some photos for the website and FB page here. At the end, I showed them a "fun" drill I'd been wanting to try. I was in a seiken push-up position and Shihan and Mike stood on each side of me. I would do a push-up, then one would give me a kick to the stomach followed by the other one. Repeat until you're no longer a sucker for punishment.

Obviously not too much for me since last posting due to the new baby. Today was the first time I did anything since then, and all I really did was my junbi undo routine and some Sanchin and Tensho. Tomorrow is class day at least, and I'm thinking I may just have to suck it up and start getting in workouts as soon as I get home in the mornings. Not always possible with court and overtime, but we'll see what I can make happen.

With workouts it is get them when you can or sporadically throughout the day.
You can achieve a lot in 5 minutes. 100 snatches or 100 swings. GTG has been my friend lately.
Glad to hear that littleAl is getting along well.
I wish I had the time to get into the gym. That is the one thing I am missing tremendously.

Thanks guys. Some days it's just squeezing it in whenever you get the opportunity.
Most of my days are obviously busy as all get out right now, but I've been fitting in a few workouts here and there. Tonight I did my junbi undo then worked on some ido geiko from sanchin dachi (12 different techniques of some various strikes, blocks, and kicks). I then did about 20 minutes of focusing solely on Gekisai Sho. I'm really starting to like the Gekisai kata.

Another quick one today. Warmed up with junbi undo then did a deck of cards workout (focused on hojo undo exercises). Minimal rest in between each exercise, had to stop to help out the wife with the newborn but at least got something in. All told, I did 45 reps of what I just call "the chishi exercise" (see below) per arm (90 reps total), 44 kettlebell swings, 39 seiken push-ups on a wooden floor, and 3 (yep, just 3) slow three way kicking with ankle weights per leg (so 9 kicks per leg, 18 kicks total). Nothing fantastic but it was fun. Eventually once I can get through the whole deck with my current approach I'll do 100 reps of each. The only thing I'm thinking of changing is making the swings one-handed and doing the same reps on both sides like the chishi exercise. See the top images (#1-#10) for what I call "the chishi exercise": www.shotokanryukaseha.com/images/chishi/chishi-English.htm

Sounds good. I am weary of using the ankle weights for kicks myself.

Sounds good. I am weary of using the ankle weights for kicks myself. I don't snap them at all, it's mostly very slow and more of a keage-type motion than an actual kick. Leg lifts would probably be more appropriate, I guess. I didn't get to do many reps with them so not sure how I feel about them yet, may just end up doing squat kicks instead.

Training is obviously erratic right now, but still managing to squeeze some in. Most days now I am mostly working on simple knuckle push-ups, pull-ups, pistols, and ab exercises with some sprints and the occasional power yoga workout. Training-wise, I'm putting a big emphasis on kata with some kumite-oriented work as well. Training today was tough, after my warm-up and some basic kihon I admittedly got lazy and demotivated. I was tired, had just ate a huge dinner before, and feeling run down at the time, but already I feel raring to go for tomorrow. Haven't been to the dojo since the birth of BabyAl, which stinks but what can you do.
