I believe that Jodan Uke as it is used now by Matsui's group is good for striking.
Ejs.: A forearm smash to the nose, throat etc. I prefer the original Jodan Uke
that is used at an angle. The fist is higher up. It is better for deflected strikes.
No one variation is necessarily betther than the other. "It is just a matter of using
the right tool for the right job."

I've always loved the angle for deflection purposes over the "blocking" mindset. Which to me, invites technique's that's aren't as effective, if at all. However, the technique, no matter how much I like it or not, isn't the problem of effectiveness or not. No, the practitioner is at fault for said technique being ineffective and not the proven style(s)!! Imho!!
