Osu.
I'd like to hear from everyone how they manged to effectively incorporate running (jogging, sprinting, etc.) in their own training. How to start, how often, how to progress, recuperation, do's and don'ts, etc.

I started running to train for a marathon for Team In Training. Their approach was low mileage while doing PLANNED walk and run intervals. I chose to run a 5/1 interval. This was the least painful and easiest on my cardio (which wasn't really bad to begin with).
From what little I've read on it, CouchTo5K uses a similar approach, however, the walk interval time becomes less frequent.

Great topic as I have been thinking about this too. Mostly as a challenge since I have never been a "runner" .

hangtime: how does a 5/1 interval work? @mmx: I was never a runne,r too. I got a rude awakening when I joined a boxing gym for a year in 2007 (or 2008). I think running is taken for granted by most people...

You'll need a timer: most folks use a gymboss, however, I use the RoundTimer iPhone app.
set it for 5 minutes of work and 1 minute rest; run at a comfortable pace for the "work" rounds, walk during the "rest" rounds. Also note that 5/1 might not be ideal; it could adjust any way that works for you. 2/1, 3/1, 2/2, 3/2, 4/1, 5/1, 5/2...just have to experiment and see what works the best for you.

Thanks Hangtime. I may try that. Although I will probably start at 3/1 lol!

Run over distance. So run 2-3 miles; as you progress, increase your mileage.
