I'm writing this thread to make something clear, that bugs the shit out of me...
You're not a pro fighter unless your career is fighting and you live off the money you make from fighting. Having a handful of fights that you were paid a few hundred, maybe even a few thousand dollars doesn't make you a pro fighter.
If you have sponsorship that gives you a salary that you're living off of plus your prize money, then you're a pro fighter!
I say this, because I have seen far too many people that are posers, go around telling people they're a "pro fighter," "semi-pro(dumbest thing ever!)", and my karate brothers and sisters that buy into this shit that don't know any better.
I'll give you a back story, in the 90s, when MMA fights started happening, there weren't too many organizations. You sometimes had to fight "underground," and no, I don't mean like in the movie blood sport. All this meant was you weren't fighting under a real governing body. To go from fighting amature to pro was a huuuuuuuuuuuge jump back in the 90s. This is why in the UK they have a A, B, and C car rated system..that for some stupid reason isn't used in the USA hardly ever...if at all.
Now, it's very easy to get a "pro" fight, it has been for about the last 8 years, there are so many rinky dink organizations now, it's not even funny. This is why it's even more insulting to me and guys I came up with when some punk from "Joe Schmo's Ultimate fighting gym" tells us he's a pro fighter.
With that being said, I have connections to get just about any one of you a "pro" fight, but if you're not prepared, it's not worth it. You'll get hurt, require hospital bills and I'm too nice to let somebody that's not ready do that anyway, and ruin the small rep I do have with fight promoters that I know.
Somebody has to start somewhere, but just because I took a business law class doesn't make me a lawyer...just because somebody made a couple hundred bucks doesn't make them a pro fighter.
Osu!
