A thread for all things Heavybag related. My currrent solution at home is a 100lb Everlast bag on a Century Bag Stand. Works good but does not allow you to be that fluid due to the stand restrictions. I was thinking of getting the Everlast or Title Joist support but it went up to 40 USD. It was about 25 USD just a week ago. Anyway so I have a new idea. I will get the standard hanger. www.amazon.com/Everlast-4680-Heavy-Bag-Hanger/dp/B00076ZE0I/ref=pd_sim_sg_15Mount it to a 2x4 that I brace between 2 joists on the back porch and set in. Then use a sprint to reduce the shock. I think that will work pretty good. Anyone got any other tips for this? Thanks! Osu!

I'd suggest going a bit overboard and grabbing two short 2x6s from the excess bin at Home Depot, the screwing them together one on top of the other with some wood glue between them. It's probably a bit excessive, but I think it's better to have as much support between the two joists as possible just so there's no chance of anything breaking and sending your bag flying off anywhere.
Plus, the more surface area you have on the joists the less likely the chance of damaging them.

Thanks for the tip! I was just thinking 2 would be better but even 2x6 would be better.

That's what we did to hang our heavy bag in the garage(not that I can use it, what with my grandfather's rustbucket in the way), and it's solid. Very solid.

I have one mounted with a screw that's been fine for years. But it's not a normal bracket and woodscrew arrangement, it's designed for mounting a child's swing. It has a huge screw thread that goes deep into the beam and a large, metal, slightly rectangular loop for mounting to.
My bag is a good 6'+ and stuffed solid with rags.
As my garage is built onto the side of the house I mounted mine to the hook with ropes. This means there's no jangling from chains to wake the kids. The ropes have a wax coating and this seems to help; I haven't had to re-tie or adjust them in 3 years.
I'll take some pics of the screw/loop if it helps, it was only a couple of quid so if you have a suitable beam don't waste money on anything else:)

Got my rig set up last night.
My buddy came over who is more knowledgeable in the world of handyman stuff. He is like my handyman Senpai.
Anyway.
He told me the beams on the back porch would be plenty for the rig.
So it goes as he put "friggen huge ceiling beams!" to the Everlast bag hanger to a swivel to a spring to the 100lb bag.
I did some pounding on it this morning and its very nice.
The spring really helps it from shaking the house.

Here is my revised workout center. Heavy Bag Hanger to Swivel to Heavy Spring to 100lb bag. Also in the back you can see DEB hanging out.. Here is my Exercise Bike,Sandbag(which since the glute pull is being quite neglected...) the blue bars are the pull up station and my ipod dock is sitting on the storage bins for the Tornado Ball,ab wheel and various gloves and handwraps in the bins. Last is the bench press another old heavybag, some old karate belts, exercise bands, jump ropes and weights. Osu! PS that is not my cigarette butt...just noticed that. One of the guests must have left that nice present for me. Yuck.
