Question Oneself. Be honest with oneself. Repeat.
Please understand that when you post information in forum, your post will most likely be around -- somewhere -- forever for many people to read. That is what many would call 'public' as in 'out-in-the-open.'
However, this board, and any other private website like Facebook, My Space, Twitter, Ning, Proboards, Google, Yahoo, and countless others are not public in ownership. You, the user, have no rights other than those afforded you by law (such as slander). The US First Amendment means NOTHING even on a US-Based message board. The uninformed sometimes think the First Amendment to the US Constitution means "no one can tell you what you can and cannot say." It doesn't. We'll leave that there.
Anyone that simply commands, politely suggests, or subtly hints that you should or should not do something on a website -- is not abusing you. This simply is not abuse by any definition.
No one should feel trapped on this site or any other. Being trapped can be a form of abuse. But if being trapped is only a perception, and that perception is not put there via abuse, then it is not abuse and no one is trapped.
You can always cut and paste! Change your setting to show the maximum posts per page. Select posts and paste into Word or another editor. Within just a few hours, you will have all of your content and creating a new blog at blogger.com or Word Press will be a breeze! And just think, no one will tell you what to write! Except that, of course, you will have to abide by the rules of those sites and any governing law. But, in general, you will be pretty much free.
Also, we should keep this in mind: part of how you "pay" for this service (the board community) is by visiting and contributing. The content you place online becomes property of the board. You might retain ownership as well (I'm unsure) but you've given permission to publish your work by definition. Might I suggest that people keep a running diary do so in a local format so that they always have it in case they want it.
In the end, if the place where you are is not for you, then start fresh elsewhere. It's not worth throwing good money after bad... or new posts into a bad situation.
So far, it looks as if the only reason to stay for this person is listed above. And you can choose to leave. Don't feel trapped! Be honest also. You do not like being told what you can or cannot say. There is nothing wrong with that! That is okay and you can completely and totally accept yourself regardless. I do.
To be fair, the post was not moderated. But the post was somewhat derogatory of another site. And the owners did not want to slander another site in any way (for whatever reason: honorable, self-serving, or otherwise). So there you have it again: the owners are in charge. If one does not like it, one can leave and start their own board!
Be careful. And be well! We have choices to make. We can make them!
Osu!

I would have left after the [...] thread, but I've spent two years of my life pouring my heart & soul into my journal here.

I don't want to lose my outlet, and I don't have enough time to set up a proper blog.

I tried the other site, but I was chastised on my first post about what to say and what not to say, after I had expressed how I was feeling and why I chose to sign onto the other site. [...] I cannot deal with anyone telling me what to say and what not to say; so *for now*, I abandoned the other site.

After reading the censoring-related comment on the other site, my head promptly exploded into tiny pieces.
