I for a while found that the first Kata taught in Ashihara Karate, Shoshin No Kata Sono Ichi, was ok for Adults to learn, but found that the kids really struggled. I looked at other styles as you know I studied Wado Ryu and Tang Soo Do, as well as other styles. I though about introducing the Pinans to my syllabus for the kids but it didn't encompass what the the style is about. I looked at the Taikyoku Kata again it wasn't what Ashihara was about. So in the end I decided to create my own. Taking into account the Ashihara ethos in Shoshin Kata and the basic'ness of the Taikyoku kata. So bellow is the kata, 3 of them. Please tell me what you think and I would be honoured if any of you adopt them into your syllabus too, just let me no via a PM. OSU!!
Taikyoku Shodan Kata
1st Move – Left Leg forward
Front foot back, Palm Heel Block, front foot forward
Back Hand Punch to the face, turn opposite direction
