It can vary from organisation to organisation We use men under 70k for lightweight 70-80k for middleweight and Over 80k for heavyweight
Ladies can be either under 60 or 65 for light and over which ever weight is used for heavy

I think most in the Europe are as per Senshido, in very large tournaments you sometimes have a +90kg Men's Category.

Thanx. I'm just surprised that the lowest weight is relatively high though. I mean had it been 5 years ago for me I could easily face a diff of 25 kg which seams like an awfull lot I have faith in the whole 'muscle is heavier than fat' - and can't wait for that to kick in

Knockdown is so power focused (as opposed to more balance of speed and power, or the pure speed of point styles), that weight makes a huge difference. There's simply not enough people interested to make more weight divisions though.

I have a student that's on the small side, he's usually outweighed 20-30 pounds, and that's in the lightest category. However, he still gives it his all! In the future, I may have him do a kickboxing or Muay Thai fight, which has more weight classes, usually within 5 pounds of your opponent under those rules unless you're huge and in the super heavyweight class Osu!

Heh, when I'm finally able to fight in a tournament, I hope there will be a women's super heavyweight division. I would really feel like a total jerk fighting knockdown with someone who is like, 90 pounds lighter than me.

-70 -75 -80 -85 -90 90+ Is what they use in Ashihara. Only time an 80kg fighter should fight against a 130kg guy should be if alot of money is envolved! Just an opinion!!! OSU

Unfortunately in many knockdown tournaments in the USA, due to lack of Women entering, there are sometimes no weight classes, or two if you're lucky. In the late 90s and until about 2004, there were quite a few more serious Women entering knockdown in the USA. Now, most of them have retired or the new generation are in kickboxing/Muay Thai and MMA...same with the Men. *monetarily, MMA/kickboxing/Muay Thai IN THE USA NEVER CHARGE TO COMPETE, and often will pay travel expenses food/lodging/etc. which is also hard for knockdown tournaments to compete against.* Knockdown tournaments and martial arts in general is a luxury, not a right. Once upon a time, the Sabaki challenge used to award a monetary award to the winner...and that's one of the biggest knockdown tournaments we have here in the USA Osu!

With that many categories I think (in the UK) you'll struggle to fill the draw. I do wonder why the usual -70 -80 80+ hasn't been updated as since it was introduced in 1979 (UK) the population has by all accounts all grown heavier. Gary
