Anyone attending this tournament? I've never been to a major tournament before so I was thinking of going (as a spectator ;-))

Geneva was very interesting! And I sure learned a lot by just watching all the fights.
Up until now all I've ever heard in Kumite is: 'Get in there - Don't back away - Stay close!' However, I have been scared to death due to my size and abilities ;-) We do mixed Kumite so I am up against blokes twice my size and all black belt women, so I have had a hard time convincing my self to stay close!
BUT – watching the fights in Geneva seemed to make me realize that I am not going to get killed or worse, so I might as well get in there and just give it all.
And what do you know, at this weekend’s grading, which included 10 fights for me, Kancho Bernard Creton’s words handing out my new belt was: ‘Don’t push forwards so much! You need to develop some sense to go along with that courage. Blondie courage is plain dangerous! Move around with the big guys!’
Obviously I can’t argue with that ;-) But despite all the bruises from my blondie courage I did walk away with a huge smile on my face – I am definitely on to the Kumite monster now!!

Congratulations on the promotion and the clarification. Staying in close with movement and angles are best friends for shorter, more compact people like us.
Look forward to hearing more about your tale.
