In the past few weeks I've replaced a couple of my prescribed medications with natural alternatives...before you guys think I'm crazy, please read on.
In the past couple of years, while being on these medications, my metabolism has dramatically slowed down. I won't lie and say I eat nothing but wheat grass and water, but I can honestly say that I don't eat fast food every day and even drink a beer every week or two...or month (I sometimes go a few months without drinking a drop of alcohol). While reading up, and questioning my doctor, some of the major side effects of these medications is WEIGHT GAIN, and upon further reading, most, if not all prescribed anti inflammatory medication has this side effect.
I will say this, the alternative I have been using instead of my muscle relaxer for sleep, has been working BETTER than my prescribed meds.
I'm in the early stage of my alternative for anti inflammatory, but so far, so good.
I am not writing this, to urge any of you to switch your medications for OTC natural supplements, I'm no doctor, but speaking for myself, I've simply had enough.
I will continue this for another 30 days, and write my results, if they're still the same.
I've also been using vitamin D3, which is said to have some benefits for arthritis, and joint health, but I started taking this to supplement working night shifts, since I wasn't getting as much healthy daylight as I needed. I will continue the D3 because it's supposed to be good for dental health, too.
Besides this, I've been drinking my own home made health smoothies, with the only supplement being orac energy greens (concoction of veggies/fruits), but with ice, coconut milk, scoop of flax seed for fiber/heart health, a piece of fruit (usually an orange or banana) and RAW honey every day.
I'm no "tree hugging" hippy, that's turned vegan, but after doing all of this for weeks, I overall, notice a difference in my mood being better, sleeping a bit better, and feeling healthier....I've quit my 2-3 cups of coffee a day habit, only drinking that on Sunday mornings with my gf for our "Sunday breakfast" routine.
Here's to my experiment of hopefully giving up some of my prescription meds! I've had enough, the weight needs to come off, and stay off.
Osu!
