There is and always will be that question of what it means to gain/ be a black belt. Some of you know that it took me a long time of failure and big blanks in my training before gaining my Black Belt so it felt like a massive achievement, I know it wasn't the end of the journey, I was back in the dojo 2 days later preparing for a tournament but I got and get a bit sick of the line that it is only the beginning blah blah blah.
So, I found this Winston Churchill quote and I think it sums it up perfectly, for reference this was at the End of the Battle of Brittan, when Brittan stood alone, as it did for many years against the might of the Nazi's and defeated them by skill, determination and tactical ability. The War was in his 3rd year for us but lasted another 3 years so how right he was.
Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

Nice way to sum up the achievement of shodan, IMHO. Thank you, TMD. Osu!
