Clicker/Semi Contact/Points fighting does have value, however, personally I feel that the value doesn't relate well to knockdown. I did clicker at a recent tourney (I was too fat for middleweight KD so didn't compete ) and I must say it was pretty pointless for me. I have been focusing so much on KD that my clicker fighting was all over the place and was beaten by someone with much less experience than me who just kept doing chudan gyaku tsuki whilst I was trying not to kick gedan! I think it's great to build up confidence and how it feels to be competing but the practicalities and transfer of skills to KD is limited. I'm always told train how you fight, so if you train for knockdown fight knockdown. The most recent time I did clicker will be the last.

not tooting my own horn, but i am a strong fighter and can take a hit. That being said, all kyokushin fighters can take a hit. We are trained for it. Generally a full contact fighter, man or woman, tests the waters with semi-contact and when your instructor feels you are ready, he allows you to participate in full contact. So that full contact male fighter will have experience, muscles and skill.
We are built different, males and females. As a strong independent minded girl growing up, i hated that fact and did my best to dismiss it. There are always exceptions to the rule. If you are the exception, thats awesome. \
There is a fight I am headed to in CT on April 30th that has semi and full contact for women and men (seperate). If you can travel, I can send you hotel info and try to help with transportation from the airpot

I started in point sparring in the mid to late 80s' before transitioning to WUKO style tournaments and then eventually bare knuckle full contact. Point sparring is everything that is detrimental to the study of martial arts.Sometimes I wonder about that: "...Point sparring is everything that is detrimental to the study of martial arts..." While Point sparring can have its benefits, fun and safer being two of them, also seems to teach bad fight habits. Osu

Good points fighters have two huge advantages over the smash and bash brigade:
1) Speed.
2) Keeping their head out of the danger zone.
I'm more for the contact stuff myself, but I was interested to hear Brian Fitkin's attitude to self-defence. Quote: "I've gone back to using my WUKO stuff"
He was a World Champion and still looks sharp, but it made me think again about the advantages of speed and accuracy for SP - the sniper option as Geoff Thompson calls it - rather than training for a war.

Right now I can barely make ends meet supporting myself and my ancient rescue horse. If I could, I would be all over that though! I'd love to see you in action, and watch a tournament like that. Will anyone be taking videos?

Yes home videos at this tournament, but we will have them. I hate watching myself. I'll be posting them along side my other fight videos on my blog and facebook.
Don't think it was a generous offer, we are all part of the martial arts/kyokushin family, and I am very much into helping to improve our spirits.

OSU, I hate watching myself too, haha! But I can learn a lot from it, so there is that.
I am happy to see this attitude, and I feel the same. OSU!
