I first encountered this training method in Japan about 5 or 6 years ago. Kaatsu training, as it is called in Japan, involved wrapping wide tourniquets over biceps and quadriceps and having the karateka do some bodyweight exercises as well as kicks and push-ups to failure, and only then removing the straps. You can read more about it here on T-Nation. www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/blood_flow_restriction_trainingI stayed away from such training. I thought it was voodoo science. My doubts about it were my general suspicion of focusing on big arms and big legs, while ignoring the rest of the body. It seemed to me that this would introduce imbalances. I couldn't read up on it enough at the time to figure out if it was something I might pursue myself. Now, maybe more information will become available as the method gains in popularity.
