I've been a champion and more to the point I've trained lots of champions. I've also spent hours helping people tweak their supplementary training and I've never charged a penny.
But a chap I helped recently has injured himself and holds me accountable. As I have no 'personal trainer' insurance this could be awkward.
To protect myself I will no longer help with email advice on supplementary training. I will suggest to anyone who asks that they build a good base using the relatively cheap S & S with a suitable KB, then afterwards seek a qualified instructor.

Unfortunately in this litigious world this is becoming all to common. ! How bad is the injury, and what makes him blame you? Was it a direct result of coaching?

I think he's just trying it on.
Once people mention 'insurance' and 'lawyers' in the same sentence though you have to take notice. I haven't coached him directly, just responded to questions via email. I think he's jumped straight into something where I advised him to start slowly. I still have that email so I don't feel too vulnerable.
This won't stop me posting on forums. I'll just be a bit wary advising people I don't know.
Common sense really.

What a turd.
Sounds good Gary. He has no legal ground on you that I can see but I do agree with your plan going forward.

Yeah I'd say you have nothing to worry about... how does anyone know that he did what you advised anyway?

I'm not worried mate, just disappointed that people you help for free can then talk about claims etc. Maybe that's the way things are now, sad though it is.
Just something I'll keep in mind in the future.

Love it! It always amuses me as well on FB or even the phone how people get their excuses in early. They'll tell you what they want help with then - before you answer - tell you why they can't do it. That's why s + s is genius. Two exercises you could do with a pint of milk in your hand if you need to start slowly. Gary
