I used to teach some nasty combinations that could be used for the ring or for self defense...to a point. It passes the point of ring legal when most of them ended with takedowns from the clinch that involve breaking of the collar bone, stomping on the head., soccer kicking a downed opponent, and so on. However, I was only 23 or so and was drilling a bunch of adults in partner drilled (noncompliantly!)to do this and felt that it works, they can maybe use it some day.
Without going into too many details that could potentially incriminate what I've taught what I have taught has been used and the people that used it are still alive.
However, part of me wouldn't mind learning some more "subtle" and legal ways of self defense since everybody where I live is so damn law suit happy these days. I need to pick my judge uncle's brain some time. Osu!

OSU Gary- Now my challenge is not being TOO resilient... I need to learn to NOT ignore major injuries if my life isn't truly in immediate danger, hah! But I will push and endure as hard and far as I can until I break and have to build myself up again, or common sense takes over, lol!

Always a fine line.
I mean resilience as in a steady confidence that whatever life chucks at you, you can stand your ground and prevail. Injuries and dangers are recognised and dealt with, not ignored.

My Isshinryu teacher did a great job teaching me everything I knew today but I came back and he gave me the most interesting self-defense methods.
If a grappler were to tackle me, all I had to do was sidestep parry his head and he'd flip over. That might work against a thug that's out of balance and knows jack about wrestling, but that wouldn't fly with a decent Judoka.
Another was, when I said I was preparing for a knockdown tournament, all I had to do was act first and quick and throw a palm heel to the sternum and another move and I'd win every time. No conditioning was necessary if I was quick like that.

Head... parry... flip?!
The only way I could even imagine that theoretically working as described wouldn't work against anyone that wasn't either drunk, twelve years old, or Charlie Chaplain. Or a drunk twelve year old Charlie Chaplain.
On the plus side, at least he didn't tell you to fall down and defecate yourself.

Haven't tried it. Never will. Nothing wrong with being quick and hitting the essential spots but these "guaranteed to work" techniques crack me up. :/ I missed the good ol' days of just sparring, kihons, and bag work.

If I sold snake oil and gave me self-confidence, I'd be cocky to beat anyone up, just like their claims!
