(as in, hiraken, keiko, oya ubi, ryotu, etc.etc.) I am just interested to know (I'm not going to tell you what I said until I se the replies!!) hehehehhe osu-yann

I was told years ago that they gave possible weapons even if your main knuckles were broken ...
Not sure about that practically, but as a youngster it inspired me to study them all.

The different parts of the anatomy used as weaponry depend on the different targets, for example thumbs and finger tips for eyes and other soft, pinpoint targets. Then there is the idea that you use hard against soft targets and soft against hard, eg. palm heel against jaw. Still, there are other hand positions, which might indicate a strike, but are not about striking at all. The hikite fist, for example, is for grabbing and pulling and not for striking.

I only drill fists, palms, knees and elbows now. Can't do headbutts and my kicks lack zip. KISS Gary

Gary That's what I was told too, and I still try different ways of using them, for example, rather than strike with the middle knuckle I may use it (if I end up on the floor wrestling) to screw into an eye socket while holding the opponents head so it cant be pulled away.

It a compilation of technics of fighting found in different kata. IE some schools preferred the uraken over the shita tsuki in Naihanchi Shodan. I agree woth the KISS principle so I try to focus on things that work for me. My favorite combination is the single collar tie and elbow found in naihanchi shodan. Or use it as a tie up for an overhand right to clinch range and the hand meets elbow sandwiching a face.

Thanks-I also told them about the 'knuckles damaged' scenario....some very bright kids in the class, always questioning & that's how I like it . osu yann
