Simple, raise your dip-stand so that you get more clearance. Also, consider partials and isometric holds from various angles.

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015Cycle XYZ, week 1The garageBench Press: 65/75/85: (5/5/5): 5/5/7 (!) Additional Bench Sets: 90.0kg: 3/3/3/2 Dips (BW): 8/5/8/5/5. Stopped each set when it became uncomfortable around the shoulders. Great exercise, but one I need to be very careful with. No pain here, but it's a really uncomfortable exercise for me, and a love/hate realtionship. Probably all the more reason to do it. Dips are tricky. I find if I hold the hollow position it makes them more difficult but less annoying on the shoulders.

Dips are tricky. I find if I hold the hollow position it makes them more difficult but less annoying on the shoulders. The thing is that they're always tricky for me, regardless how I do them. Wednesday, May 20th, 2015Totally done in after work - rest Thursday, May 21st, 2015The garageCycle whatever, week 1 5 minutes shadow boxing to get the system going Squats: 105/120/135: (5/5/5): 5/5/7 Additional squats: 140: 4x3 80: 2x10 That was probably the best squats session I had this year. Happy! Osu!

Friday, May 22nd, 2015 Dojo
Sabaki moves Kumite combinations Sanchin Tensho Gekisai Dai Ichi Gekisai Dai Ni Gekisai Dai Ichi bunkai. I was lined up with a guy who's about 7m shorter than me. That was awkward.
In all a nice session.

Sabaki moves? Good man. Come over to the dark side ... ? Yes. Basically pivoting and trying to get out of the line of the attack. Heck, I would if there was anything Enshin-ish within a reasonable distance. What do you mean?

Kids are great partners for practicing sabaki. Whether in the backyard or in the dojo, cutting angles, turning and evading can make a game of tag or sparring fun for everyone, learn while playing. Against adults, this translates into a game of controlling position, your opponent, and the fight.

Sunday, May 24th, 2015The garageCycle whatever, week 1 Deadlifts: 135/155/180: (5/5/5): 5/5/5 Additional sets: 120: 5x5 My buddy S lifted 140 x 5 for the first time ever. Yay to you, my friend! Had my wife and my daughter with me in the garage also so it was a bit crowded, and they did a lot of squats, sit-ups and planks. Great to have them with me! Especially my daughter had a lot of fun, and it is astonishing what kind of physical exercises such small kids (she's 6) can do with such a natural grace. Osu!

Monday, May 25th, 2015 The garage
Cycle dunno, week 2 Bench press: 70/80/90: (3/3/3): 3/3/3 Additional sets: 82.5: 5/4/3/3/2 Not good today. My left wrist hurts, and I don't have a clue why it does.
Ab wheel rollouts: 3x15
My wife was with me again and did BW squats, ab wheel rollouts, farmer's walks and sit-ups - while complaining all the time! A good sign - whenever she complains about something this means that she's eager to kick its ass, whatever it is. OSU, girl!
EDIT: Got the kids to bed and then did: 25 minutes shadow sparring / kumite combinations 15 minutes Gekisai Dai Ichi, the linear version - attacking and defending role
Hm. I did enjoy doing my stuff as I always do, but today was one of those days where I felt incredibly stiff and could not get any kick above chudan. I think I can only partly blame this on the heavy deadlifts that I did yesterday. Is this a sign that I should stretch more? Or that I should use more fish oil? Or that I'm simply not young anymore? Laugh about it if you want, but this gets me thinking more and more.
