OSU!
I am transferring my log from... erm... somewere else to this place for several reasons (that I will not write down in detail) and I am looking forward to interacting with the people on this forum.
Some facts about me:
- 42 years old, male.
- My first name is Christian, and I guess I'm connected to some people here on FB.
- Started GoJu Kai Karate with 12 years, practiced my butt of until about 24 years old.
- Shodan with 20 years, and that's as far as I got.
- Quit Karate for many years for various reasons (though maintaining a reasonable level of fitness by pursuing some other physical activities), came back with 40 and have been going at it since 2.5 years again.
- Did one year of Kyokushin (2012-2013) and really liked it, but had to quit the dojo simply due to time constraints. I'll spare you the details about the why, when and how; long and boring story, it really couldn't be helped.
- Joined a GoJu Ryu dojo (Okinawan, IOGKF) some months ago. It's similar but still very different from the GoJu Kai, but at least they let me wear my black belt. The SD / bunkai stuff that's done there is purely destructive and efficient, and we do a lot of low kicks there also. Funky stuff.
- Dojo once per week only. Time...
- Lunchtime sessions with several colleagues (a boxer, a Kung Fu guy, a Taekwondo lady, a Krav Maga instructor, some newbies) about three times per week. This is not for fun, all of us take it absolutely seriously, we sweat and have bruises all the time, and well, it seems I'm the sensei there. Lots of pad work, light sparring, skills, that's what we do. Shower off, back to work.
- Weight lifting (5x5 and 5/3/1, respectively) 2-3 times per week. I do this at home in my garage which I've turned into my dojo.
- Karate on my own (bagwork, kata, skills) whenever I can pull it off and Mrs. Karate4Life won't kill me.
Why am I doing this?
- I am looking forward to the interaction here.
- I am always grateful for getting any piece of advice from those who walk (or limp) the same path with me.
- I want to keep track of my progress as time passes. Yes, I could do so by writing my stuff down in a private journal, but then see the above items.
What are my goals?
- Improve my Karate, whatever that means.
- Get stronger, that's why I lift.
- Keep on punching and kicking just for the divine feeling it brings.
Wow, that was long.
OK, first entry.

Dojo.
- Junbi Undo.
- Bits and pieces of Kururunfa kata.
- Kururunfa bunkai.
- Sanchin dachi and Nekoashi dachi drills.
- Yoko uke drills.
That was a very technical and not at all physical session with many many many explanations and demonstrations by sensei. The bunkai includes so much biomechanics and nasty applications bordering on sheer brutality it's frightening.
In case you don't know it here's the kata:
