This isn't going to be a training log as such as i'm not able to have a strict schedule at the moment. I am just going to post a few times a week what i have managed to do, whether it's karate or just my own fitness work. My aim is to get in at least two karate sessions a week, one general class and one knockdown class. I'm also going to start leaving the car at home and ride the bike to work, not too bad going there all downhill, but all up hill going back! Also need to start something at home of an evening, would like to get a kettlebell and at some point somehow hang a bag.
Well we'll see how it goes, aims for this year are 1st kyu grading and to compete at some point. Osu

I keep toying with the idea of getting a Bag on a stand but I don't like the way the supports at the bottom lie All the best with your training goals, Looking forward to following along

Nice to see you giving the old log a whirl Welshy, if you wanna borrow a kettlebell and manual while I'm on the sick list (can't imagine any kettle bell routine that doesn't use the traps at least a bit) just ask mate and I'll drop it round, not this week though I'm in sunny Jersey!

That would be great tmd would be good to give the kettle bell a whirl to see how i get on with it. I think it would be an ideal workout of an evening when my wife is at work and little one is in bed.
Monty i know what you mean about the heavy bag stands, they just don't look ideal. But it could be my only option to hit something at home.

Well no dojo this week, but got out on the bike every day so kept up the long term plan of cardio fitness improvement. Should be able to do a few dojo nights next week so looking forward to that. Then next Sat is the IKK open, really looking forward to this even though i'm not fighting (going to be hard to sit and watch though, too used to being involved). Long term plans though are going to have to be put on hold. My wife is going to have to have a couple of operations this year, so i'm just going to take the karate as it comes. Osu

Thanks for the good wishes I made the dojo tonight. Was a good basic class, kihon, bagwork with a few fights at the end. Going to be training tomorrow night, knockdown on a Thurs so looking forward to that. Really feel in the mood for hitting some bags and some good sparring. Weighed myself last night and have shot up from 84/85kg to 90kg!! I was aiming for 79/80, so it seems irregular training and being lax on the diet (cider and chocolate etc) have taken their toll!!

Well managed the dojo twice last week, one general class and a knockdown class. It was only a couple of days before the comp so it was mainly fighting combos and bagwork, at the end though class was split so those not competing could spar. Really happy with my sparring at the moment, combos and footwork are working well. Really enjoying adding a bit more movement rather than standing there taking punishment! The goal at the moment is cardio fitness and some weight loss, watching the heavyweights at the weekend i'm realising that middleweight is where i need to be. Weighed in last night at 87 so dropped 3kg in two weeks! 79kg here i come Osu

No dojo at the start of the week, kids decided to share their germs with me and give me a stinking cold! Didn't want to waste any time though so spent the evenings stretching with my eldest daughter who is a dancer. My flexability is my weakest area so i tend to neglect it, my daughter also needs to consistantly work her stretching so we will be working together on this one. Felt better last night so went to the dojo. Had a fairly easy start with some kihon for those with gradings coming up. Then the class was split up, some doing grading stuff and the rest of us knockdown. It was a good session worked a few punching and blocking combos. Then plenty of sparring as my sensei has a tourney in a few weeks.

How was the sparring? Anything new you learned?
I always end up finding something either that has improved or that I need to improve.
