Wow, groin kicks legal? This IMO, will draw a few select people and possibly cause others not to fight. I am going to discuss this with who I had planned on entering rings style. He may not want to now, but I hope he does! I only have 3 to 4 so far planning on knockdown. I'm hoping to get at least 3 more in the next few months. Osu!

I agree PO1. I am just sharing the rules that were given to me for you and others to be aware for the "ring" style.
Knockdown rules are in line with what one would expect.

Whoa, groin kicks? Definitely not my cup of tea...
P01, are your students going to fight knockdown or semi-knockdown, with pads?

Knockdown and one possibly in ring style....maybe two in ring style but I'll talk to them more about it tomorrow. I'm sure Seattle will have students fighting with his recent crop of new Shodan students! Who btw all deserve it! I'd only have students fight semi-knockdown if that's all that tournament had, or if they were minors. If there's knockdown, I'd try to insist they do knockdown, over semi. I won't let them do ring style until they're at least green belt and get some more specialized kickboxing/MT training from me..or if they have previous Kickboxing/MT experience. I also told them I'd never support them competing in a kata division at a tournament I used to do it pre knockdown and Muay Thai, and looking back, it's just too damn biased at times and I have trained with people that care too much how "pretty" their kata is, instead of how effective their karate is! Sorry for my ramble! Updating this post because I now have it confirmed that 1 will be fighting ring style...now to talk to the 2nd possible candidate tomorrow . Osu!

I still compete in kata only because our directors insist on it. I still meet people who tell me that they are training for the kata competition. I simply laugh and tell them, "you shouldn't have to train for kata competition". In my experience, having students fight in semi-knockdown is a good first step before stepping up to the big show. I tend to see the semi-knockdown divisions as our novice catergories. Osu!

Only 1-2 totally new people will be fighting knockdown, unless they "forgot" that knockdown means no shin pads or "gloves." This Wednesday I'm going to be going over that with them again, for them to understand. I also won't allow a totally new student compete for safety reasons. Reminds me of people I trained in BJJ with calling a grappling match a fight. They got sick of me telling them that it's not a fight if strikes aren't allowed . Osu!

Only having one enter ring style this year! If there is no groin kicks being legal next year (which I think will happen by lack of fighters this year) I think I'll be able to get a few more for ring style rules. Osu!

What is considered a knockout in ring rules? is it done on the tatami or in a ring?

Groin kicks being legal is taken out. The ring style is typically done where the knockdown fights are. A ko from what I have seem is when somebody is knocked out cold or isn't able to get back up on a timely manner. I don't believe there is a 3 knockdown tko rule like in some kickboxing rules, but I could be wrong.
I'll see about finding registration forms, etc. Osu!
