Felt great today. Really strong.
I'm not daft enough to believe everything I read without trying it first, but so far this is all good.

Excellent Gary! Are you tracking anything in terms of calories/protein etc?

No - all I'm tracking is how I feel. It's strange, but I just feel 'better'. Not something scientists could measure (sorry Ros) but having a couple of days of fasting seems helpful. As I said earlier though, I'm not recommending this. I'm retired and I only train 'hard' for five brief sessions a week. This is for health, not for karate or fitness. It's tough when my wife cooks toast on the fasting days and it seems a long wait until 5.00pm when we eat our evening meal. But mental strength is part of the deal ... Gary

It's strange, but I just feel 'better'. Yes, it's called 'placebo'. Just kidding, intermittant fasting and calorie restriction have been shown to be beneficial and I think there's still research continuing. Apart from anything else, you probably also feel really chuffed that you have the willpower to continue the regime (toast, mmmmm, toast), which makes you feel better too.

Thank you for sharing Gary.
IF works for me and I don't track calories and I eat fairly well besides needing to include more veggies.
I feel great, energetic.
How often do you fast?

Wednesdays and Sundays until about 4.30pm
So my evening meal the night before till then, about 24 hours. Plenty of fluids. Keep busy! Sitting around is fatal as I just start slobbering looking at the fridge ...

I started slow 12 hours, 16 hours. I remember the first time I went 24 hours. It wasn't that bad in retrospect especially when busy, but when I finally sat down it was go time!
Another observation is that my body doesn't tell me when I am hungry, I tell my body that it's time to eat. If that makes sense.

Perfect sense.
When I worked shifts I just ate when I was hungry, then the family came along and we settled into 3 meals a day, more to always eat breakfast and dinner together than for hunger.
But - like you - I sometimes get caught up in something and realise it's time for the school run, so missing lunch didn't even cause a rumble. Simple add on to miss breakfast as well on 'fast' days. I'm an early riser so as far as the kids know I ate before they got up, I just come to the table and drink a tea while the family eats.
Easy peasy - except if she's done TOAST

It would be so nice to be able to 'forget' about eating because I was busy. In all honesty, I almost constantly think about eating (I've just eaten breakfast and I'm hungry right now!) - the only thing that stops me is willpower and not being able to eat while I'm working. Of course, I also have the ability to eat and eat long after I'm full, (although I haven't put that to the test for a few years).
I can't imagine a day without snacks never mind food (ha, the only good thing about being diabetic is I don't have to!)
Can anyone guess why I used to be fat? ;D

Maybe I just don't need the calories like I used to.
Rescue work can be emotionally and physically exhausting, as can training 2 to 3 times a day, stopping up late, shagging around, driving long distances, travel etc
That was my life until marriage, retirement and common sense took over, aided by serious illness that made me take a long hard look at what I was doing.
So now I have a mad 2 hours in the morning, relax when the kids are at school, a busy 3 hours in the evening. Add in 5 quality but not exhausting workouts and I'm feeling fit with nowhere near the stresses and strains - or need for food.
Life is good. In fact, considering the alternative, it's brilliant.

Sounds great Gary. I'm very interested in seeing how things progress. Glad to hear it's becoming more manageable and that you are enjoying it. I think those are key.
